“Superb site with great facilities.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Myself and my husband spent ages researching campsites for our 2 week holiday with our sons, age 3 and 5.. The campsite was just as the brochure and website had described. On arriving at the campsite we were greeted by the very friendly receptionist who not only checked us in but gave us an overview of the site and showed us where all the facilities were. We asked to be pitched near the play area in order that our boys could play as they wished but still being able to keep our watchful eye on them. The pitch was perfect for this, also the pitch was a great size, perfect for our tent, gazebo and car. The toilets and showers were always found in a very clean condition. The site is very quiet at night time, there was relatively no noise after half ten. The swimming pools were great and our boys loves spending time in them. It felt like you were abroad as the weather was just perfect. There was entertainment 3 times in the week for the children in the courtyard and although we didn't get to see it I heard it was very good. The courtyard also has a restaurant/take away. This is not licensed but you can take your own drinks. The food was lovely. Shop in site was well stocked and not over priced at all. Crazy golf is free and you help yourself to the clubs and balls. Our boys made loads of friends and none of us wanted to come home. So much so that even before we got home we decided that we will be returning next year. Thank you carlyon bay camping park for such a great holiday.

“Nice campsite with large pitches and lots of aminaties”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We had a lovely time here:-) The reception was very nice and the woman booking us in was really nice too! We could pick our own pitch as it was the last day of high season, so people were going home. There are a few different fields for touring caravans and the showers, toilets and other aminaties were sparkling clean. It's very quite at night which is great and the surroundings like Looe, Fowey and a bit further a field, St Ives, Mevagissey, Cape Cornwall and Lands End are just lovely. The Campsite has it all as far as the shop, swimingpool and other aminaties we caravanners like, so all in all, we would definately come back here, if we were ever heading this way again in the future.
And for those of you who use campingcheques....this campsite is a member so out of season it is a really cheap campsite, particularly for what it offers for the price of a campingcheque!

“Great site, excellent facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We booked this online and everything was confirmed via email. A few days later a well laid out site booklet, giving details of the local area, along with booking confirmation paperwork arrived from the campsite which was unexpected!

When we arrived at the site it was great - a pleasant and friendly greeting from reception with a brief, but detailed, introduction to the site. Our pitch was very well marked so that there was no confusion over where we could put up the tent / park the car and the power and water points were within easy reach.

The toilet/shower facilities are well laid out, very clean and fastidiously maintained. The site shop is well stocked, isn't overpriced, with a good selection of food, camping supplies and general goods to keep kids entertained.

We ate at the on-site cafe a couple of times - try the burgers, they are to die for!!

I could write for ages about how good the site was but a few points will wrap it up I reckon -
-Tesco within 3 minute drive
- heated swimming pools on site
- no loud music
- TV and laundry rooms
- excellent cafe
- pleasant and unobtrusive staff

When we go camping again in Cornwall I won't bother to look for another site, I'll just book here again.

“Good site, nice location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

We stayed at Carlyon Bay Holiday Park after doing some extensive research into large motorhome-friendly campsites in Cornwall. Perfectly situated near St Austell with good road access off the A30.

A jam-free journey down the M5 & A30 on a Saturday morning saw us arrive in good time at 10.30am, a little early ahead of their 12 midday pitch occupation time – we parked in the large layby just ahead of the main site entrance.

We were greeted by a couple of friendly ladies in the small but busy reception area and booked in easily without fuss. Heavy rain was imminent so we were advised to get on pitch and set up quickly – being a motorhome, we can – and come back to reception when we were settled in for a run-down of the site facilities.

The rain sure did come down heavily but it wasn’t for long- so the advice from reception was pretty much spot-on! Back at reception after we were pitched up saw a comprehensive site introduction, showing us where key facilities were etc.

As soon as the rains went, we went to explore the site – the children wanted to go to the outdoor pools – which were great! I guess they could be a little chilly if the sun wasn’t out but it with the sun out, you could mistake yourself for being anywhere in the med, what with the styling of the décor and buildings. Truly wonderful!

There is an on-site food facility – we didn’t use it but others in our party did and the feedback was positive.

Laundry room with big washers and driers was a godsend for us as we hate going home with loads of washing - £4.50 a wash and dry was good value we thought.

The site is medium-sized with some lovely coloured flowers/bushes on the way in – they do make the entrance look small and cramped but it isn’t that bad – we got our 8ft wide 31ft long motorhome in easily and onto a large hardstanding pitch.

The generally large hardstanding pitches are graveled and not tarmac so I would take a groundsheet to enable you to walk barefoot on. Electric hook-ups were in the hedges – not always that easy to find! The grass is cut after every occupation – I have rarely seen such impressively-kept grass areas at a site. One criticism of the site would be the lack of water supply taps – some were in very odd locations tucked away in corners by the toilet blocks where they really could have done with being perhaps halfway along some of the bigger pitches – a motorhome with onboard water tanks that needed topping up would need a hosepipe in excess of 45m in length to fill up. The motorhome waste emptying area at the top of the field was brilliant and enabled fuss-free and odour-free emptying of the waste tanks – this area had been very well thought-out, top marks for this.

Toilet and shower blocks were nicely tiled, the showers were hot, really couldn’t have wished for more – although during busy periods, there can be queues for the traps and showers. You need to put a little thought into your timing, especially if you are looking to get away at a set time.

This site scores big points when it comes to recycling – there are recycling bins for each kind of waste dotted around the park – these were used by all campers and they were regularly emptied, along with the waste bins. This is the best recycling scheme I have seen on a campsite to date.

This is a site within hearing distance of a main road – not intrusive at all but you do get a fair few traffic light Grand Prix events from motorbikes etc plus the usual emergency vehicles passing by. There is also a small branch railway line that runs past the site but that is no problem whatsoever.

There is a large indoor weekend market at the complex opposite the main road entrance to the site, well worth a mooch around if that appeals to you.
Also there is the fantastic Brittannia Inn (see my other reviews) just a short walk from the site, it gets quite busy but the food and service is good.

The beach at Carlyon Bay is within walking distance, we all managed it with small children but be aware of the steep and numerous steps to the beach – plus there are no toilet facilities when you are on the beach. This beach could be so good – but the old entertainment complex is still derelict but there are big plans afoot for this – so this area will no doubt improve.

Road access to nearby towns and attractions is good, supermarkets are nearby but beware they get very busy in peak holiday periods. Take your bikes! Charlestown is lovely and accessible by bike as are many other coastal paths etc

This is a site that appeals to families, it is quiet after 10pm – we were asked to tone the noise down a little as we played swingball at 4pm in the afternoon but I suspect they were only having to be seen to be doing something after a particularly noise-sensitive campervan parked up opposite where we were…..

So, in conclusion, this is a site I would recommend and one that we will look forward to returning to perhaps next year. Keep up the good work!
