“Would definitely stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We had booked this hotel for a one night stop off when travelling around Cornwall. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere in the hotel was very relaxing. The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and good view from the window - only negative was that the walls were rather thin. We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel as some of the reviews we had read prior to our stay were quite off-putting. The meal in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced although the menu was rather restricted. The large bathroom was a bit outdated but was clean and comfortable providing a nice hot bath (which is lacking in some hotels). We had booked as "room-only" rate which was very good value for money. Overall a relaxing stay in a nice location - a good choice for us. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We chose this hotel because it is a Best Western and, as members of the rewards club, were hoping for an upgrade on arrival. Sadly, this didn't happen as they were very busy. We were very disappointed with our room. It was up 4 flights of stairs, which with no lift was very tiring. I have bad knees and struggling up those stairs with our luggage was a trial. The room was very hot and small, the only opening windows were two fanlight windows. There was no bath, just a shower, which was in a bathroom no bigger than a cupboard. We banged our head on the shelf above the basin when cleaning our teeth. Most of the staff were helpful and polite, but didn't go out of their way to help. The restaurant had a very strange smell when we walked through it, which I think was due to the cleaning spray they use to clean the tables. Dinner on our first evening was a disappointment, as the fat fryer had broken and chips were not available. Roast potatoes were offered as an alternative, but when the meal was served I was served with boiled new potatoes. We didn't enjoy our stay, and will not be returning to this hotel.

Thank you for your review and we are sorry that on this occasion an upgrade of your room was not possible. Whilst we have no lift, we do offer a porterage service to both floor levels. Had we not been fully booked we would have been more than happy to accommodate you in one of our ground floor rooms overlooking the garden. Please accept my apologies that on this occasion we did not meet your expectations

if you are looking for a venue for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries i highly recommend it, the events manager Lisa Jago was fantastic, it was my first venue and we had over 100 people on the night, to do a auction/raffle entertainment and this ladies knowledge was first class, she had thought of everything to help me make my night just what i wanted and kept me calm and not stress about anything i would definately use the hotel and the fantastic advice and meetings to achieve a very good evening and everybody loved it no complaints. thank you so much to all the staff and the manager.

Room Tip: didnt stay was there for a venue but lovely and clean and very helpful staff

Lovely room and although the bathroom was a little tired everything worked exceptionally well and the huge bed was very comfortable. The food was delicious although the restaurant was a little souless. All the staff were great but Jody and Adam deserve a special mention.

Just back from 4 nights at this hotel. Had a seaview room. The bed was very comfortable, breakfasts great and staff very friendly. Lovely lounge area as well. Only slight criticism is the plumbing was a bit noisy and the shower was either boiling hot or cold but I wouldn't be put off going there by that. The hotel does have a sauna which was OK once we got it going, the swimming pool I had all to myself, you won't find pictures of this on Booking.com etc because it is not really up to the usual Best Western Standard but hey ho I still had my swim. Overall I think I can give the hotel a 7/10

Stayed here on business for one night, would not stay again as the beds were uncomfortable and the shower must have been installed in 1970! service however was excellent, very dated establishment, needs a refurbishment!
