I have had lunch here with the same friend on 3 occasions since its new ownership and each time although the restaurant has been very quiet the food was top notch. So when my son suggested a family Sunday lunch I got on the ‘phone to book a table straight away!
A large table was waiting for our party of 4 adults and 2 little ones. It was the busiest I have seen it but surprisingly far from full for a Sunday in August. The waitress took our drinks order but it took around 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. A waiter brought us a jug of water and there seemed to be plenty of staff on duty which is always good to see. Later they took our order and left us to chat.
I thought that given it being a Sunday and most people were eating the roast dinner it was a long wait, more than 30 minutes. We each had roast beef, the plates arrived with 2 large thin slices of meat, roast potatoes and a Yorkshire, the vegetables were in separate dishes. My son was gleeful at my offer of a slice of my meat as I prefer less meat and more veg, but we were disappointed at the portion size of veg. I guess for most people it would have been enough, but we are big fans of our veggies!
The food was very nice, but could have been a little hotter. The staff were pleasant and the addition of the play area in the garden at the rear is bound to be a winner. I love the decor, they have clearly put in a lot of time and effort refurbishing the restaurant and it is done to a beautifully high standard and is spotlessly clean.
I hope to try it out one evening before too long and will definitely return with my friend for lunch as the menu is fab!
