This hotel has to potential to be excellent, but lets itself down on FAR TOO MANY things.
Nice first appearance, the rooms were well decorated and roomy, THAT IS WHERE IT ENDS!
The rooms are TOO HOT.
There is no air con, only patio doors. In the daytime you cannot leave these open so when you return to your room it is boiling (it was not warm weather when we were there). Also at night it is too hot in the rooms unless you sleep with the doors open which is a serious security risk in my view especially when it says in the car park the hotel will not accept any repsonsiblilty for any loss to cars, doesn't make me feel safe.
The bed wasn't the most comfortable and we found it had to sleep due to the heat.
We could hear the fan in the main house clearly.
When deliveries occur (which are regular) they disturb your sleep...this happened at 11.30pm and 8am!!!!
Stylish but NOT private, your neighbour can see into you room. If you sit on you balcony and your neighbour does you are basically with them.
People can smoke on the balcony. So if you are in your room with you patio doors open their smoke blows into your rooms AND IT STINKS. There is nothing you can do but close your doors and fry in the heat or passive smoke...!
There was no information about the hotel in the room, no room service menu, no spa info, no map of the ground (I asked for one that never turned up), no restaurant menu (which we were told changed every day but remained the same the 3 days we looked at it). I asked for the menu for the brasserie (which since I got home now seems to not exist despite paperwork advertising it) the member of staff said they would bring it to my room...he did not! We were given an empty fridge which gave out more heat than keeping drinks cool. We were given 2 bottles of water on the second night but not the first one...???
Staff were initially helpful on check in. But then the service went rapidly downhill. No one once asked if we were enjoying our stay...do they care???? I asked for info that never arrived. No one asked if they could help with our bags on the way out so I have come home with wheels on my suitcase full of sand from dragging it across the grounds.
Breakfast was a joke, on the first morning we were sat at a table and asked if we wanted tea or coffee. The waitress returned after 15 mins to ask if we were ready to order - I pointed out I didn't have a menu or know how breakfast worked. She explained it and took our order. We ordered 2 english breakfast, one without tomato. Both came out wrong, so she took them away and 10 mins later the correct order came out...cold. I can forgive this once but wrong orders were being brought out all over on both mornings and no apology give to the customers. Dirty tables were being left, coffee took ages to come out and food was slow to be restocked on the buffet. If it wasn't included in our room rate we would not have gone back the second morning.
Menu 'bakes beans'...if thats the care and attention that goes into a menu that everyone is going to see...I don't want to eat there ever again....
All of this put us off eating in the restaurant in the evening, something we were looking forward to!
Lift/ access to rooms =
There is a lift to the first floor in the white house, there is NO LIFT to the woodland rooms, you have to walk up and down and carry your bags. Rooms on the 1st floor ar actually further than you would think!
Room keeping =
On the first morning I had 3 knocks on the door and 3 attempts to open the door. This was before 8.30am. I eventually got up and opened the door...it was clear the room was occupied so why did this happen???
NO SOAP REALLY....? =
Hotel had run out of soap for the rooms. I discovered this when I asked for something to wash my hand with in my rooms (I thought it was an oversight). The man on reception gave me some extra shower gel to wash our hands with...! The extra was then taken away the next day by housekeeper. Beyond belief!
Very limited next to the house, then you either go through a big puddle (I had to pull my trousers up) or up the sandy steps...which is now all over my suitcase.
Hard to use but then broke on and off all day for the first day of our stay. We watched blank screens for some hours over the course of the stay. We reported this to reception who said an engineer had been called...it took almost 24 hours to be fixed and it was still dodgy then!
MY ADVICE TO THE HOTEL IS STOP TRYING TO BE SOMETHING YOU QUITE CLEARLY ARE NOT!!!!
