“Great break - in the lodges”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Stayed in one of the lodges mid December with a group of girlfriends. We managed to get a special 2 night "girls weekend" break which we had at a very good price. Check in fine with no problems - helpful staff. Parking pretty awful at reception which I think they need to address. Got directions to drive to our lodge. You cant park outside but have to walk a minute a two. Bit annoying if you have lots of luggage to bring in (ours was mainly booze to be fair!). Lodges been built to high standard with open plan sitting room/kitchen/dining upstairs with balcony and downstairs 2 x bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Nice smellies in bathrooms and a welcome pack in kitchen which was excellent. As we had the "girlie weekend" special we had included pizza and popcorn on the first night. Pretty good and saved us cooking!

The next day was our Spa Day - we had managed to get some vouchers through Groupon - £47.00 for the day including a massage/facial etc and a glass of Prosecco. Although as residents we did have free access to the Spa - just no treatments. Receptionist not very attentive on arrival and no smiles. We were not offered robes/slippers but had to ask for them. It was all very clean and felt quite relaxing. My treatment was excellent as were all the others. We had lunch in their "small" lunching area and that went down well.

I was surprised that there were no woodland walks or estate walks but we did walk up to the main house (where reception is and the restaurants). Very helpful staff on. We arrived mid morning and wanted coffee. They were clearing up after a big party the evening before but coffee was no trouble at all. The brasserie looked nice and the restaurant too - although we ate out so didnt sample the menus.

All in all a pretty good break. Not much to fault and very relaxing. No doubt we will return.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage ask for a lodge near one of the car parks!

We recently stayed at "The Cornwall" in a junior suite which we found bright and spacious with a large comfy bed (one annoying thing though, the TV kept losing signal). Our bathroom was also large with a rolltop bath, just the thing for relaxing in after a very cold day! The staff were helpful and were happy to recommend other places to eat locally as both resturants in the hotel were booked on our arrival. We ate at The Kingswood Restaurant, just a few yard along the road, where we had a fabulous meal at a reasonable price.

The hotel's food from the formal Arboretum restaurant in the evening to the self service breakfast was delicious. (We did notice at breakfast however, that on a busier weekend there were problems keeping up with demand for food, if you arrived after 9.15am - lots of empty serving dishes!).

Now, the spa - having returned from a very cold day exploring we were looking forward to relaxing in the warmth of a hot spa, but the steam room was out of order, the pool was luke warm and the jacuzzi cold!

Apart from that, this hotel is well worth a stay for touring this part of Cornwall.

I went to on Spa day here back in November on Travelzoo voucher and was so impressed with facilities and therapist that booked three day lodge holiday with my teenagers during Feb half term week. The lodges are very spacious and well equipped (apart from table mats) we had such a relaxing time using the facilities (also had spa day on groupon voucher) watching dvd's reading, good old fashioned family time.

The lodges are modern only problem were sofas not very comfortable at all and one had stain on it

also paint work needs some attention and only beginning of season. very clean though - lovely modern well equipped kitchen and very very warm

The spa day was a little disappointing after last visit (and have many more booked) the massage and facility was great but receptionist was rather grumpy (this was discussed by others in jacuzzi too) and no slippers this time and not very nice welcome unfortunately. The steam room was out of action which can not be helped but not communicated very well on first day.

Swimming pool is great - as the therapist had very effective customer service.

The reception staff with very knowledgeable and helpful and positive

WE did not eat at the hotel as were so chilled out ate in lodge and had some great takeaways from local places

Overall exceptional value for money, very relaxing, loads of fun and so enjoyable. Thank you!

We had a weekend deal which made the dinner prices easier to accept, felt the wine prices in particular were over the top. Nice pool but you have to walk thought a bit of a construction site to get to it and the steam room wasn't working. The staff were all very friendly and the food was locally sourced. Good breakfast but it could have been presented in a better way- small things but it does make a difference

On arrival our room was not quite ready but check in was courteous and efficient. Lovely Dinner in Arboretum restaurant on both nights. The hotel was full and working at a stretched capacity and staff although really busy were un failingly polite and helpful. The towels ran out in the spa, breakfast was an avalanche of guests but I was served directly and the butter had run out completely on my last day, this is not a complaint just mentioned to show how busy the hotel and its staff were over the two days we stayed.
Our room was lovely clean and a very comfortable bed with just the right pillows for me. I like slim firm ones and so slept very soundly. Bath in bedroom an oddity. Lovely view from balcony. I enjoyed using the spa but the steam room was not working and the whirlpool not the most efficient, I have enjoyed facilities elsewhere more than here. One touch I appreciated was that you can ring for fresh milk when using the tea and coffee facilities in room.
I really did enjoy my stay so did my husband and after one night we felt that we had been there for two already.

Just back from Winter Warmer break at Cornwall Spa. The staff were unfailingly cheerful friendly and helpful. Food deserves its 2 rosette award. Plenty of local produce on the menu too. Only disappointment was crockery imported from UAE - as well as supporting local food producers it would be nice to see crockery made in UK. The pottery industry needs all the support it can get!
Still enjoyed the hotel though.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking garden rather than house

We had a very nice stay and i would have graded this review higher, but the Housekeeping dept has some problems that it needs to get sorted out. I totally accept that every organisation at some stage will have a problem, be it lack of staff or just poor management of staff and procedures. We arrived at 3.15 ,the check in time was 3.00pm, our room was not ready. We were offered tea in the lounge while the room was being checked. Judging by the amount of people in the lounge we were not alone in being roomless! At 4.20 we were told our room was ready. We booked in and got to our corridor at 4.40. Call me old fashioned but the sight of piles of dirty linen lining the corridor is very off putting, as are the dozen or so black rubbish bags piled up waiting to be taken away.
The room was pleasant with a balcony, novel idea having the bath in the room. Need to lose the ridiculous little sink though! The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Claire in the Acorns was fab a great ambassador for the hotel. The Spa whilst its not cheap is a lovely treat. The Lava shell massage was brilliant. So day 2 and clearly housekeeping have still got a problem. We returned from our day out to the same sight of piles of dirty linen. Unacceptable. An urgent review is needed. We would visit again with the expectation, that someone has got a grip of the problems, that clearly beset Housekeeping.

Room Tip: Rooms facing east 221 onwards get a lovely blast of morning sun! and the Balcony is very pleasant.
