“Probably the best B&B in the UK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

My husband and I only intended to stay 2 nights at Harmony Homestay this summer, but we ended up staying for 3 and seriously considered calling work to try and make it a whole week, but instead are already planning our next trip back to visit.
Before we even arrived I knew we'd made a good choice from the friendly welcoming emails and travel advice we recieved, but I couldn't have imagined how wonderful our stay was to be.
From the moment of our arrival we were welcomed by Charlie and Nigel like old friends into their imaculate home. They helped us with our bags to our stunning bedroom with spotless bathroom, super shower, enormous bed, TV/DVD, tea and coffee facilities - which it turns out we didn't need because within minutes we were enjoying tea and home make cakes on the lawn while they helped us plan our sight seeing activities for the next few days. Nigel has an encyclopeadic knowledge of cornwall and provided us with several personalised tour routes and points of intrest to visit and even broadend our cultural horizons by inviting us, along with their other guests to a local opera performance, which was a thouroughly enjoyable evening out. Breakfast was truly a feast every morning with Charlie's fabulous full english, toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, so much so we didn't need lunch most days! We left feeling like we had made two new friends and would gladly welcome them to stay at our home if they ever fancied visiting Hertfordshire or London. We have recommended them to everyone we know and will definitly be back next time we're in Cornwall.

Room Tip: All 3 rooms are equally beautiful, there is 1 groundfloor room if you have trouble with stairs.

If you are thinking of visiting Cornwall for a holiday break, there really is only one choice - Harmony Homestay in St Austell. Firstly, there is the location, which is ideal for visiting nearby attractions such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, Charlestown, and the gloriously picturesque Fowey. Good roads ensure it is also easy to travel to North and West Cornwall. Sterts Covered Theatre on Bodmin Moor is also worth visiting if you have a spare evening, with many excellent productions during the summer months.
Charlie and Nige are your hosts, and I guarantee that you will not find a warmer or more hospitable welcome from any other B & B or guest house in this country - I've stayed in a few, and they could learn an awful lot from these guys. After being shown to your immaculate, spotlessly clean and well-appointed ensuite bedroom (three in all), you are welcomed with tea and home-made cake (if you're lucky you might get a traditional home-made Cornish cream tea in the lovely garden).
Nige will help you plan your holiday trips - his exhaustive knowledge of the county is packed with information - and there are plenty of guides and maps to help you on your way.
Charlie is the wizard of the kitchen - breakfast is a veritable feast, and will ensure you are not left hungry by lunchtime.
They are always happy to talk and give you advice and tips on the area they are obviously so passionate about.
There is plenty of off-road parking, and a quiet neighbourhood ensures a sound night's sleep, and all this at a very reasonable price. Why would you want to stay anywhere else?
I have just returned from a wonderful four night's stay, and not only do I have amazing memories of my time spent in Cornwall, I also feel that that I have made two new friends that somehow you feel you've known all your life.
What higher recommendation can you give than that?

Room Tip: If you are a single traveller the downstairs double room will adequately fill your requirements.

In June 2013 we spent three nights at Harmony Homestay. Hosts Charlie and Nigel were very welcoming, charming and knowledgeable of the local area. The accommodation was absolutely spotless and comfortable and the breakfasts delicious. We cannot recommend Harmony Homestay too highly and plan to return soon.

My wife Fiona & i recently stayed with Nigel & Charlie at Harmony Homestay on the outskirts of St. Austell. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone wishing to visit the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan etc. The house & bedrooms are spotlessly clean, excellent en-suite bathrooms & a breakfast that will see you through the day! As hosts Nigel & Charlie are welcoming & very helpful but allow you the privacy you need to relax whilst away from home & work. Nigel was helpful in making our day trips interesting by showing us places to visit that would otherwise have been missed. If you want a B&B of quality this is it...Steve & Fiona Barber, Glossop, Derbyshire.

Spent last weekend at Harmony Homestay with Charlie and Nigel and was very impressed. From the time we arrived with our friends, till the time we left (and returned again to collect shirts left in the wardrobe!) nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. Starting off with tea or coffee and home made cake on arrival, they were happy to put a bottle of wine in their fridge for us and to provide glasses when we were ready to drink it in the evening.

The rooms were immaculate - we had the smaller room downstairs and our friends had one of the large ones upstairs. They offered to move us upstairs for the second night but we found the "small" room more than adequate for us and didn't put them to the trouble of making up another room. Our bed was very comfortable indeed and we appreciated the tea, coffee and biscuits provided for a late night or pre breakfast drink. And the breakfasts - Charlie does a wonderful full English ( or is that Cornish?) complete with cereal, yoghurt and as much tea, coffee and toast as you can eat! Really set us up for the day - we shouldn't have needed to eat again until tea time!

Nigel is a mine of information about the area and has all sorts of brochures and printed sheets for driving instructions along the scenic routes, rather than the main roads.

All in all, a great stay - we left feeling as though we had made two new friends and would highly recommend Harmony Homestay for your next trip to Cornwall.

Room Tip: The larger rooms upstairs have views but the smaller room downstairs is a good size too so I wouldn...

Anyone fortunate enough to stay here with Charlie and Nigel are in for a real treat. Kind, knowledgeable and friendly - nothing is too much trouble in this lovely and beautifully appointed house, which feels like a home from home. Comfortable, spotlessly clean, immaculate bedrooms; splendid breakfasts, and a lovely little oasis of a garden. Your hosts have a deep love and knowledge of Cornwall, and are full of ideas and suggestions as to interesting things to do and marvellous places to see. It feels more like being pampered by special friends. Can't wait to go back again.....soon!

Room Tip: Take your pick!

Charlie and Nige made us feel we were real friends during our stay. From tea on the lawn with sponge cake when we arrived to the wonderful breakfasts each morning.
Made us feel that they were privileged to have us stay with them, but the truth is, it was our privilege to know them as great hosts providing as much, if not, more than any 5 star hotel could give us.
Highly recommended does not go far enough to describe our experience.
