I Have stayed here a total of 6 times, given its location for travelling around Cornwall.
The hotel is rather dated - grand decor, the rooms are tired but clean. The staff are all very friendly and service is very good. Initially the bar area seems very small given that the restaurant is busy every night of the week with locals, but next door they also own the sports bar with sky tv / table football / pool / darts and all drinks can be booked to your room.
The main reason for me returning to this hotel for business is the food, again the restaurant is dated but the food really is very very good with all the fruit, veg, meat and fish sourced from local producers esp the Newlyn seafood!!
Redruth itself does not offer much in the way of dining options, there is a Chinese/Thai, and a couple of Indian restaurants all rather scruffy - stick to the food in the restaurant!!
The hotel is also in a good central location for site seeing Cornwall, and just 2 mins from the A30. Newquay is 25mins north, Penzance 25mins south & st Ives & st Austell both similar distance.
I have not used the leisure facilities so cannot comment, the hotel also has free wifi throughout the hotel.
Would I return - Yes, for the food alone.

The Penventon used to be the place to stay about 30 years ago and unformtunately it has not moved wih the times. Staff are friendly but my room smelld of smoke - heavy drapes which must have not been cleaned since the smoking ban. Breakfast was good but evening meals were very heavy - lots of thick sauces. I had room service the second evening - just soup and cheese board for £14! The soup was meant to be homemade from fresh ingredients but it looked and tasted like like a cheap packet soup. Cheese board was rather mean.

I spent the 2 sperate weeks in Feburary at the Penventon Hotel Redruth.
On entering the hotel I had a good greeting, and friendly helpful staff. My first weeks stay the bedroom was a little tired, could do with a little redecorating, however the room was clean and tidy. The second weeks stay I stayed in a different room, and this was much better so the hotel seems to be having a rolling refurbishment of its rooms.
The bar is good and well stocked with plenty of selection of beers, wines and soft drinks, and not too overpriced like some chain hotels. The restaurant is very good. A good selection of fresh (no microwaves here) food with good attentive staff.
The residents lounge is nice and quiet, but next door is a pub, the Spice of Life which has big screens for sport, however during my visit was very quiet. Midweek, February, Redruth, understandable.
Breakfast was good with a good selection, my only negative comment being the anaemic toast.

The hotel had lots of character. We stayed in a deluxe room but were moved as the extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy. They moved us straight away and up graded us to a garden suite which was decorated in a modern style. The restaurant was very pleasant we had the set menu which had plenty of choice. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

I stayed here in a garden room on 22.01.09. The view was nice. I couldn't believe that there could be such an oasis of tranquility in Redruth, which has absolutely nothing, nothing whatsoever to offer.

My breakfast was great. Briskly and courteously served, and tasted good. The beans were too tomatoey though. The dining room was sort of Regency kitsch. I lkied it.

We were offered home made jam, which I later found out was made by the proprietor. The greengage was fantastic. Wonderful. What a great touch.

My room was clean, and spacious. The staff were friendly, but not obsequious. I considered £75 a reasonable charge.

I did not have dinner at the hotel, but I looked at the menu. I was put off by the starter. The "signature" dish was gambas al pil pil at £7.50. Blimey, that's a lot for sizzling prawns, the ingredients for which can't cost more than a quid. You can get it all round the Costa Del Sol for a lot less than that.

Notwithstanding the dinner menu, I had a lovely stay. As I write, the lady on the lost property desk is posting the mobile phone charger that I stupidly left behind. Frankly, I'd avoid Redruth like the plague, but if forced to stay there, I'd return to the Penventon Park Hotel like a shot.
