My partner and I were staying at Hillhead Farm and were advised to visit Carn Brea for a meal. And we were certainly not disappointed by our experience!
We were greeted by a very pleasant lady who also served our food. She was friendly and informative and made us feel very welcome.
The atmosphere at night is magical as the castle is lit only by candles. As previous reviews state the castle is chilly in the winter, and the walls were damp so be prepared for this. For us though, this only added to the novelty of eating here!
The food was delicious and arrived very quickly. I had baba ganuosh to start which came with warm pittas and olives, my partner had spiced garlic mushrooms; both were superb. For mains I had a spinach and potato curry with boiled rice, my partner haf the fillet steak in a whiskey and mushroom sauce which was served with minted carrots, roast baby potatoes and black peppered green beans. My partner advised me that his steak was in the top five steaks he has ever eaten (and he eats a lot of steak!) My vegetarian dish was also very nice and I felt well catered for. Finally for dessert we chose to share the baklava which were a lovely end to our meal.
The house red wine was reasonably priced at around £15 per bottle and was very drinkable! The castle does not take cards though so do take cash.
All in all we thouroughly enjoyed a romantic evening at Carn Brea Castle and will definitely be returning.
(Only one word of warning, the track up to the castle is very bumpy indeed and you really need to take care to avoid the potholes!)
