Lovely cove. Parking next to the pub in an official car park only costs 1 pound overnight, but a road 20m around the corner (Portmellon Park) is free.
The bar staff were very friendly, and the main bar overlooks the cove. It seemed to us that the covered seats could do with refurbishment, and the slight smell of pets was in the air. We ate the sea bass, and it was OK. It is the only the only pub I have ever seen that allows you to pay with cash or a cable-less card machine, which is inventive.
We had a room over the front door, with a low window (overlooking the car park and the beach), with a skylight. Remember to close the shade before you sleep, but the seagulls will remind you to get up. :)
Getting back up to the room is difficult, because there seem to be three ways to get to it, but there are no lights in the hallway, so I had to use a torch to find the keyhole.
The breakfast was average (I'm not saying it was bad at all, but not up to others we had experienced). The breakfast room could also do with refurbishment, as it felt like a tea room/restaurant in the 1960s. A man on the next table (two other couples were staying), remarked, "This place used to be packed", which proves the point, I suppose.
A local pointed out that the council refuse to replace the old slipway, which would encourage boats to be moored there. That would improve the popularity of the cove no end, which would then be shown in the The Rising Sun.
