We loved this. Don't be put off by the price. There is lots to see and you will find yourself easily spending half a day here, especially if you stroll down towards the coast.
The museum was a delight. You can look around all the outbuildings - to our surprise we forund the "dry room" (miners' changing room) the most evocative. The best bits are at the end the though! After you have gone through the processing shed, you can have a go at panning for "fools" gold. All our party from young to old loved this. We got rather competitive. You get to keep your finds! Then you head out to the highlight of the museum, a walk underground through some old mine workings. Because these are very old tunnels they are not deep underground. The tunnels enter the side of a hill and you pretty much walk around on one level. But be warned those miners were a lot shorter than average folk today, so there is a lot of bending over to get through. We thought this added to th excitment, but it might be tricky for the elderly?
