“Pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

We stopped off at this mine on our way to St. Ives. We went for the guided tour, put on our hard hats and went down to meet the guide. He had lots of information to give and answered all questions out to him. We went down into a part of an old mine (caution... not for anyone with back problems) to get some feel how it was. Really enjoyed our couple of hours there and would recommend a stop there!

“An amazing insight into a lost industry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We spent well over three hours exploring the many different aspects of the mine and still had to leave before we had seen all we wanted. There was so much to see and do as well as an excellent cafe where we sought out very much needed refreshment before continuing our exploration. Very helpful and informative staff, excellent presentation and a variety of additional information and activities. A great day out for individuas and families

“Fantastic heritage and the kids loved the panning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We visited as a family in June 2012. A brilliant half day and highly recommended. I'm not sure tin mining would have been for me. The highlight for the kids was panning for gems - if there is no Q then it'd entirely possible that this could last for an hour. The museum is great and there will probably be some ex miners around to add to the experience.

In short, well worth a visit with or without kids.

“Experience a real tin mine... not for the claustrophobic though!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

My husband and I visited here on a very cold and windy day so were grateful to get indoors to the exhibits area. There is a lot of walking about on the exposed outdoor ground though so wrap up warm.

The entrance fee is quite steep - £10.50 each for adults. There are several sheds with exhibits in but as we arrived late, we didn't get to see the Hard Rock Museum or a couple of the others. What we did see was good. We then made our way to the tour starting point where we were guided by a very knowledgeable guide around the mill area. This is a massive building where you can see all the equipment and even see some of it (the shaking tables) working.

You have to wear a hard hat for all areas of the site and you will be given an overcoat to put on before you go underground as the iron in the rocks will stain your clothes.

The underground section where you go into a mine was claustrophobic and tall/wide people will find it uncomfortable. This part of the tour lasts approx. 30 minutes where the mill part lasted about an hour. The guide will lead you through with a torch and explain about various parts along the way. It's cold and damp but interesting. There were only four of us on our tour and it would have been cramped and miserable with any more than that as you wouldn't have heard what was going on.

The shop is OK and we didn't use the cafe so can't comment on that. Toilets OK. Wear good shoes/boots as there's a lot of walking to be done and you will need sensible shoes for the mine tour.

“educational, allow for a whole day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

i visited geevor last year with my partner, and my only regret about the visit, was i didn't allow more time before it closed.

It has a museum with lots of information and artefacts, amazing maps showing the old workings going out under the sea.

There is a cinema with great films about the mine and area, unfortunately i had to cut this short as i wanted to see the mine workings.

The mine workings themselves were fantastic. a really good job had been done of presenting them.

the underground section, was a little short, but still very good. i believe they were opening more soon.

finally you can walk down the coastline, and see some beautiful landscape, explore the old tin pump houses.

definitely recommended, wether it's the whole family or just adults!
