“small portions high prices...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

We live within a couple of miles and have been many times. Over the last 20 years I have seen this place deteriorate into something quite sad. I appreciate times are difficult financially and that either portions must decrease or prices increase and sometimes both. Here you will pay high prices for very little either in portion size or quality. A bowl of soup is accompanied by a morsel of bread now instead of a small warm roll. The surroundings try to make you feel as if you are in a lounge area but the shop is sad and has little charm these days. Why do we return you may ask? My mum is an avid gardener and it is nearby. The saving grace is the staff despite working in what must be trying conditions they are helpful accommodating cheerful and a credit to their employers . There is aso the vain hope that things may improve. x

“Pleasant staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We had a midweek lunch at their cafe as there was a voucher in my wife's garden club magazine for 2 meals and hot drinks for £9.99. Normally the hot meals are between £7-8 and teas and coffee just under £2. The meal deal did not start until after 2.30, which meant that some of the limited choices had sold out already. 2.30 is a bit long to wait for lunch, but the staff member allowed us to eat early and pay later so the deal would work on the till.
The pie was meaty and delicious, just a shame that the vegetables had run out, so chips were offered as the alternative. Fine with me. The dessert let the side down as it was past it's best and dried out. On the whole a pleasant lunch, but I doubt I would normally come to a cafe in a greenhouse on a regular basis for a meal.
The garden centre itself is like most others and has some useful gift ideas.

“Nice Cuppa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

My husband and I often pop in here on an afternoon for a cup of coffee and a tea cake or toast. Well it makes a change from home being at home and a treat.

The food here is mainly homemade to a high standard. They do a selection of breakfast until 11.30 and then there is a lunchtime menu which offers sandwiches, jacket potatoes, or a full blown meal. There is lots to choose from along with a dessert and cake menu. The veggie option is limited though and there is nothing for a Vegan on the menu. There is also a hot and cold children's menu too. The food is cooked to order so if it is busy expect to wait for a short while, but there is always plenty on the plate. Well worth the money. (I am also told but have not yet experienced, the Sunday lunch is worth its price)

The homemade cakes are to die for... I particually like the cherry slice. My husband loves the Victoria Sandwich cake. If you have coffee and a tea cake you get a special deal and from 2.30pm onward they offer afternoon tea or cream teas. Yum.

The staff are friendly and always willing to help. If you have a Wyvale Gardeners club card you can use it here along with their vochures so you can get some excellent meals for a fraction of the price. It is well worth a visit.
