Very accessible base from which to visit the Eden Project along with the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Room in a converted stone barn was extremely warm, clean and comfortable despite the cold Easter weather.
After a very busy day out touring it was a pleasure to return to the hotel and spend an evening in at the restaurant with very attentive staff
Thank you

Booked this place for 3 nights over Easter. 165 pounds for 2 of us b and b. It has its problems. Double room, in an outbuilding called 'the stables' was ok. Food first night inexpensive and mediocre. Bar prices reasonable, ran out of Doom Bar. Next morning waited the best part of an hour for breakfast, which was mediocre. Second morning a buffet breakfast had been put on but the staff serve it. Second day arrived back at the room to find the room had been left open all day by the cleaners. Not good. Third morning buffet breakfast again - 'can I have 2 sausages please' 'no sorry you can only have 1'. !!!!!! Is there a war on? Young waiter called me 'buddy'. Waitress chewing gum. Avoid.

A group of us has just returned from a 4 night stay and we can not thank the reception staff and and the rest of the staff for a pleasant stay.Rooms were excellent, food was a good choice and plenty of it. Us men played the golf course and found it to be in good condition ,considering the weather lately. As for arriving late on our first night, the hotel arranged to leave key and we had no problems finding it and our rooms were excellent for the money we paid.you could not of wished for better quality service and advice.I do hope that trudy the manageress and all her staff keep up the good work. The only down side was we all wished we could of stayed longer.DO NOT BE PUT OFF FROM OTHER PEOPLES REVIEWS. We have already booked to go later in the year ,and maybe for xmas period. Thanks see you all soon

Clean, quiet and in need of a little make over. More than a little tired decor but were told there is a new owner who I am sure will gussy it up a bit. Great poached eggs ;-).

Friendly staff, just v v quiet but then it was out of season

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and the hotel was average before but is now under new management and is even worse, very poor at the least. There was nobody available in the reception area when we wanted to check in and the waitress was not sure what to do, not really what you want after a 370 mile drive, eventually got our rooms when she contacted someone on the phone. The meals used to be served upstairs in the bar area but when we stayed this time they were served in the lower restaurant, which was devoid of any atmosphere. I had a pint of Carlsberg which had to go back as it was sour and another guest had to do the same with his pint of bitter. It appears that the new owners only want to run a golf club and not a hotel, which is a shame as the place has a huge amount of potential. The name is misleading as it is not really a Hotel and Country Club, just a glorified Golf club at the best.

We booked a winter stay as we were surfing the net for a stay in the area. Found the price of £55 for a family of four including breakfast at a golf and country club..bargain, but then wondered if it was too good to be true.
Admittedly, it was winter and things were toned down for the winter, with the sportsman bar closed, but this means that things were very quiet, which suited us perfectly.
The slight blemishes were that a few things look tired, the tennis court, the snooker table and the swimming pool, but all perfectly usable.
To cut a long story short, the staff were absolutely fantastic, accommodating, welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble, the room was absolutely lovely, the bathroom tidy and the beds comfortable. For £55 this was good value, but not sure if a summer rate may be as good.
I suppose if you manage your expectations based upon the price you pay, it helps you.
