“Very pleasant 3 night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

My wife and I recently stayed here for 3 nights as a base for our travels around Cornwall. Reception and restaurant staff very friendly and helpful.

We were in room 22 which is an upstairs ensuite room in The Byre (I think). Lovely room well decorated (yes maybe a bit dated) seemingly new bathroom and huge comfortable double bed. There were a few cobwebs dangling down from the ceiling which were dealt with by a swipe with a towel and the covers on the settee were a bit marked and torn but otherwise very good room. The bathroom was bright and clean but the extractor fan was really dusted up. Couldn't figure out how to switch it on, saw some switches high up on the wall above the shower but didn't want to risk electrocution! The bedsheets looked as though they hadn't been changed from the previous occupants so we mentioned it to reception and they dealt with it perfectly.

Breakfast was buffet style with cereals and/or full English. Food was good but basic. Didn't fancy an evening meal in the restaurant as the menu looked particularly unappealing, so we went to the bar instead and had a very good evening meal in there on the first night and ate out on the other nights.

Hotel is ideally situated for discovering Cornwall as it's convenient to all the major roads yet tucked away in the quiet of the countryside. We are not golfers so cannot comment on the standard of the course, but I would certainly recommend this hotel to others who are planning a trip to the area

I have been taking a golf society to Lostwithiel G&CC almost every year since 1994 and this weekend probably marked the 20th visit as some years a few of us have been twice. We have tried other venues, but we can’t find anywhere that provides the same combination of great golf, hotel on the course, fantastic food, excellent value for money and a local, quaint village within walking distance for a good night out or pub crawl. The staff have also been excellent, with a special mention for Trudy, who I think is the Hotel Manager and who has been there to look after us ever since our first visit. My Society has mixed abilities with handicaps ranging from 9 to 26. we all love the course, finding it constantly challenging, despite often playing 36 holes a day (although for this I would recommend buggies).

Stayed for two nights, and thankfully didn't pay what the hotel website wanted as we booked through an agent.
I think they must be struggling in current economic climate as some updating is needed. When we stayed there were quite a few workmen staying which meant that out of the 18 folk in the sports bar we were the only two females, also, on both mornings we were woken by the guys getting ready for work at 6.30am. Wasn't their talking but the footsteps in rooms above and running showers.
Evening meals were very slow, over an hour for one course to arrive, tasty but made up by lots of chips.
Breakfast was self serve and good.
Free, plentiful parking.
Wifi very slow connection but was free in sports bar.
Our room could have done with a little more airing, wasn't damp but stale.

We stayed here as there was an offer on an it's a good location for visiting the Eden Project. We stayed in room 4 which was part of a barn conversion and a really good size. The bathroom looked pretty new and was very clean. Beds were comfortable, with crisp white sheets. The decor may not be to everyone's taste - think 1970s rustic and you're probably not far off the mark. As the barn is a coversion the internal walls are pretty thin so we could hear the family next door until they settled down for the night. The hotel does mention in their info book in the room that they are working on this and to be honest it wasn't much of a problem. The swimming pool, despite looking like it needs some tlc, was lovely and warm and we had it to ourselves most of the time. There are swimming lessons on a couple of nights a week until 7pm so best check with the hotel if you want to use the pool before this time.
We ate in the bar in the evening as there was a good choice on the menu and it was much cheaper than the formal restaurant. The food was lovely and arrived really quickly. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of cereals and the traditional full english.
All the staff at the hotel are lovely - plenty of smiles all round!

Just come back from a wedding party in august 2012,
Well this hotel needs up dateing charaging £112 a night not value for money. the rooms are clean but need updateing ASAP. the staff were freindley but havent a clue how to deliver breakfast. all very well been nice and plesent, but they need to be trained on how to serve breakfast. breakfast was cold and very dissopointed with it. the drinks are expensive. the food for the wedding was shocking. after finding out the booked in a table of 45 we had to wait till 16:30pm for the food the roast spuds were burnt and the new potatoes were rock hard.
on arrival at reception there was a man there and a women on the phone to the DJ asking if he could set up his stuff tonight.
i was not intrested in this and this should of not been done in front of us.
we were not told when breakfast was.
room 1 dont stay in as the water tank is above the bathroom and every time some one flushes the toilet it makes a loud noise.

Room Tip: Dont book a wedding here

We didn't expect to find ourselves staying in a golf and country club, particularly as we are not golfers! However, it was lovely we stayed in the Dairy, room 26, the room was fantastic and the bathroom outstanding. The room had everything you could need. The breakfast was disappointingly average but the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Would recommend staying here for a reasonably priced break even if you don't play golf, there are tennis courts and a swimming pool at no extra cost.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room, they are quieter.

We stayed at this hotel in June. The location is very handy for local visits such as the Eden Project and Helligan. The staff were very efficient and friendly. We used both the restaurant and bar for eating and and were not disappointed. We stayed B&B and our en-suite room was clean and adequate although the beds were on the firm side. The only problem was that the room was quite noisy as sounds could be clearly heard from other rooms particularly people walking around above.

Room Tip: Avoid a room in the Granary block
