“Perfect chilled out getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Stayed here as 3 couples in a silver birch cabin over a long weekend. Great cabins - the upstairs en suite is fantastic - large bedroom with very comfortable bed. The other 2 couples had to fight it out between bunk beds and the twin room though so not ideal, probably more suited to a family. Kitchen had everything we needed and the lounge had ample space. The hot tub was brilliant - they clean it everyday and it was such a pleasure to sit and chill out in the evening.

We hired bikes for a day which was great and we went to nearby adrenaline quarry to do the zip and coasteering - would definitely recommend this - so much fun! And would recommend the Plough Inn for a special dinner.

There is a shop and cafe on site which has everything you need though would recommend doing a shop in the Liskeard morrisons prior to coming as you pay a premium. Staff fantastic and more than happy to help with any queries.

To note - there is no phone signal here and the wifi is dodgy at best but actually personally i think that made the break! And cabs out of the valley to local pubs etc will start at £10.

Thank you for writing a review following your recent Forest Holidays break at Deerpark. It is most heartening to hear that you enjoyed the location and your cabin accommodation. It sounds like you had a great combination of high-adrenaline Zip Wire and coasteering activities followed by chilling in your cabin and hot tub.

An amazing way to see Cornwall.

Positives: Spacious, gorgeous, cosy, well stocked, clean, comfortable and homely cabins. Amazing hot tubs that are well maintained. Place to do BBQs on the decking out the back. Very friendly staff throughout, bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and have fun (big shout out to Jamie for getting up early on Sunday to fix our bikes). Surrounded by stunning surroundings, rivers, tall trees, winding paths, wildlife (seriously, I didn't realise it got so beautiful in this country). The site itself was peaceful, quiet, safe and tranquil - you instantly relax here. Superb bike trails to follow, all of which are connected to the site. Smack bang in the middle of almost all of Cornwall's best attractions and beaches, being just 45 minutes from Newquay or 30 minutes from St Austell etc. Plus there are a bunch of great attractions (Eden Project, UK's longest zipline etc), quiet beaches and eateries all less than 15 minutes away too. You could spend 2 weeks here, easily.

Negatives: In terms of the place and the time we had there, none. The only trouble is something so nice costs. But if you're sensible, shop at the Morrisons down the road, spend your time bike riding on the amazing, winding downhill trails through the local woods or in the hot tub or getting to some quiet, local beaches with picnics you can offset things there and have quite a reasonably priced family holiday.

In the end though it was amazing and this is the first holiday I've ever had where I hope to return (I usually I prefer to experience something new).

Room Tip: We had Silver Birch 15 and it was perfect for us as it was secluded and beside the river but to be f...

This place is amazing and peaceful.
Those who are moaning about the check in time of 4pm go and visit somewhere before you get to Deerpark and relax. Those who are moaning about check out time, go and do something before you drive home. There are 50 cabins that need cleaning, that's going to take a long time no matter how many staff you have.
On the subject of staff, every single staff member where happy and always helpful. They all made an effort to talk and be helpful. My favourite staff member is Victor!!
The park is located near all the good tourist villages such as Looe and Fowey and a good starting point to reach further down Cornwall.
The Cabins are light and airy and equipped well. The Jacuzzi is great and heats up fast. Those who were moaning about it being cold when you arrive, have a drink and wait.
Yeh it is a little annoying that there isn't internet and mobile phone reception but in a way that's nice because no one can get hold of you and you can properly switch off. Download any films before you get there. Theres wifi at the retreat if you need to check facebook.
Cant wait to come back!

We have just returned from a 4 night break in a Silver Birch cabin and had a wonderful time. The peace and quiet was amazing and the view from the cabin beautiful. Its a great place to escape the noise and rush of the city.

The cabin itself was clean and furnished to a high standard and the large balcony with barbeque area and hot tub were great after a busy day exploring. The forest retreat in the centre has a lovely seating area where you can get drinks and food ( and connect to the internet for free) and there is a small playground for the children.

The area has many trails for walking and bike riding and there are fishing villages and beaches close by. Its also a great location to get to the Eden project. On site the rangers put on activities such as a duck race, pond dipping, teddy bears picnic, dusk watch and night vision ( where you explore the Forrest with night vision equipment).

We couldn't fault the cabin or the staff who were friendly and very helpful and genuinely seemed to have a passion for the forrest. We are already checking dates to make a repeat booking.

My top tip would be to take a sat nav and be prepared for the Cornish roads which can be very narrow. The layout of the cabins means that they would also be suitable and good value for 2 couples or a group of friends or family to share. My only winge is that prices are much higher during school holidays - however I appreciate this is the norm everywhere and not specific to this site.

Let's get straight to it - if you are a family an you are used to caravaning, camping, chalet holidays in general, then I'm sure you would be 100% happy.
However there are no excuses for having no site wide Internet connection - this is a given in 2013. The 4pm check in and 10am checkout is BAD, because Of this I lost a day to go there and a day on the last day ... I had the cabin for 3 nights but only stayed for 2 - because as other people have mentioned driving around in a car full of your possessions IS a problem so I drove home instead!! this place could be so great for the touch of management detail that is required. Stagger your check ins - charge more for late check outs - dont be so bloody rigid. I like this place and I would like them to be doing 20% better. Then I would come for 1 weekend a year, as it stands I would not be able to go back because they have not thought of the customer first - they are being worthy of telling the customer that they only have x amount of time to get the chalets ready - rubbish, the customers don't want to know as this is YOUR problem. My best advise to you is this : the city folk come to your place in the country, you need to understand what our needs and expectations are, otherwise you will always be a business with a foot in 1977. Sort the maintenance out and the purple paint ! Green is the colour of nature - good luck

Thank you for your review. Hopefully I can answer your concerns and clarify our position with regard to the points you raise. Check in is between 4pm and 8pm, and in line with your suggestion we do offer both early check-in and late check-out for a small additional charge. With regard to site-wide internet connection, we are in the hands of internet providers on this but we are working on a solution. However unlimited WiFi is free of charge at the Forest Retreat; many of our guests like the existing set-up as the forest is an escape from their everyday lives. I’d like to thank you for choosing us on this occasion and taking the time to register your comments.

This was our first experience of a forest holiday and we loved it, the children made dams, took part in the duck race, we cycled through the forest, walked all the suggested routes, visited the local fishing villages of Looe and Poplerro. The relaxed in the hot tub. Would recommend to anyone, loved the no mobile or Wi-Fi - made it a proper break, must remember willies for next time through, to avoid wet trainers when my kids decide to walk through the stream! :)

Our third visit to Deerpark. (We have also stayed at the Forest of Dean site). Had a three bed golden oak for a week. The cabin was very comfortable and well equipped and the whole stay was extremely relaxing (no mobile phone signal and no email!) The kids, in particular, loved the hot tub and feeding the ducks, geese and fish. We also did a couple of ranger activities (dusk watch and night walk), used our bikes on the forest tracks, and took some lovely walks with picnics in the forest. We were blessed would good weather and the verges were teaming with insects and butterflies. We also took day trips to watergate bay (body boarding), Talland bay (lovely cove with Bach cafe), Tintagel (castle with story telling) and cycled along the camel trail from wadebridge to padstow. Cornwall is very busy in the summer so it was great to be able to retreat back to the peace and tranquility of the forest in the evenings. We barbecued most evenings using a disposal barbecue on the special shelf provided.

Room Tip: We stayed in cabin 13 which is quite a walk from car. We liked it but might not suit all (walking di...
