“A special place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2015

We have been to the Housel Bay Hotel several times over the years, usually just for a drink outside, but we had a family lunch here in November 2013, to commemorate my mum and dad's 50th wedding anniversary. As has been said previously, the hotel is rather quirky, but nothing can beat the views from the dining room overlooking the hotel grounds and the stunning bay beyond. We had a bit of a wait for food to be served, but in fairness we did arrive towards the end of their lunch service and the kitchen very kindly agreed to take our order. We had a range of dishes from the menu all of which were excellent, particularly the fish dishes. A special way to mark a very special occasion - many thanks to all at Housel Bay.

“superb food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2014 via mobile

Our third trip here this year.Again food was stunning. My husband had a lovely beetroot goats cheese and pickled cauliflower starter
My half lobster with homemade crab ravioli main was truly memorable. And please stick with quirky character not the generic sage and teal with blonde furniture look of bland modernism

“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

Based on the rather tatty dining room and vagueness of the waiting staff, we did not have high hopes for Housel Bay. We were, though, pleasantly surprised. The starter of scallops, served with a 'salsa' (in fact just mixed peppers) and bacon was a perfect example of over-fussiness. The main, however, was really rather good: local monkfish, mussels and langoustine in a broth of leeks, green beans and lime, with parmentier potatoes. Fresh, lovely and well seasoned, this was a surprisingly good dish. The view is superb. If only they had a wine list to match. The family that owns the hotel is charming and friendly.

“Stunning food, service and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014 via mobile

Visited on Thursday 31/07/14. We were a party of three adults and one child.
The hotel is very quirky, set in a bygone era, with subtle olden time music playing in the background (1950's I think). The food was excellent, as was the service. We had a conservatory table overlooking beautifully manicured gardens and the ocean.
We felt that nothing was too much trouble, the staff were very polite, helpful and well mannered. We mainly ate the seafood platters which we all agreed were excellent.
We received a personal touch too as the chef came to ask if we enjoyed it. If I holiday in this area again I wouldn't hesitate to return. I'd advise booking in advance as there are a limited number of tables and to let the chef know of any dietary requirements.

“Lovely food in a stunning setting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

We had lunch, overlooking a beautiful garden and sea-view. It was so relaxing and restful. We had visited the nearby Longships Lighthouse and decided to eat here after a recommendation from a friend. The food was excellent, well cooked, well served and well presented. The staff were friendly and no-one seemed in a hurry for us to finish. The meal prices were about what you would expect for a quality hotel and waitress service. They do formal dining and more casual dining. They offer accommodation too. We did not want to leave and would return again.
