Excellent soup, pleasing, varied and well-presented charcuterie plate. Cider range good. Landlord very friendly. Clean.

“simply amazing specials”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

This was our second trip to the black swan, our first visit wasnt great, we went for sunday lunch back in july which was bland, boring and barely warm. But we thought we'd give it another go hoping that the chef was just having a bad day that day.
This time my partner and I visited on a monday night for dinner, we hadnt booked in advance but was welcomed with friendly faces by the two young lads at the bar.
The main menu which for some strange reason is on a board and not on printed menu's was boring, dated and dull to say the least, so we opted for the delightful sounding specials on the specials board. I had lamb rump with bubble and squeek, kale and mint jus while my wife had pollack, sauteed potatoes, green beans with a lemon butter. Both dishes were excellent and wouldnt have been out of place at a 2 rosette establishment. The deserts were ok clearly not homemade though and again apart from the presentation seemed to lack effort and creativity.
The food massively exceeded our expectations due to the lack of creativity and passion on the main menu.
I would definitely recommend to friends even if its just to go and try the specials board. 5 stars simply for the two specials.

“OK but that's all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Not bad food, but nothing wonderful. It's convenient if staying in the area and you don't want to drive too far.

“motor way services”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

passed through Gweek to see friends and a meal on way home, (Sunday). Called into the local Black Swan for a social chat and food. Well the chat was good but not the pub or food, both bland and unfriendly, the lunch we were served looked akin to something that had been on display under lights,( motor way services), my shoe leather was softer than the potatoes and the rest of no better quality, for a friendly local the place seemed empty, and upon talking to a few locals found that the place had "gone to the dogs", which is exactly what should have happened to our food as there were enough dogs in the pub that looked like they needed a meal, if we wanted to eat with dogs we would have gone to a kennels, who paid these other reviewers!!

“Summertime in Cornwall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Spent a few days with my brother who lives in Constantine. The Black Swan in Gweek is on the way back from Helston and is in a beautiful Cornish Village. We had been there before but with the weather being so lovely we popped in a few times. Everything good - food, beer and locals sitting at the bar having a drink which is always a good sign. Andrew, the owner, most pleasant and made us feel very welcome. If you are in the area I strongly recommend a visit.
