“Alexander Pope confortable hotel for rugby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights in this hotel for 2013 Rugby 6 Nations. Staff very friendly, helped us in everything we needed. Efficient pub, also for breakfast. Rugby stadium is 15-20 minutes far from hotel, 490 bus stop is 5 minutes from hotel and ideal for people arriving/departing from Heatrow (terminal 4-5) using Heatrow connection

Room Tip: Room 216 1st floor i squiet even if it's over the pub

Stayed here for seven nights recently and thought that overall this hotel was a great value. The room was clean and spacious compared to some hotels I have stayed at in England. It was nice to have a restaurant and bar within the hotel, but there are many great places to eat within walking distance. Twickenham train station is about a fifteen minute walk and from there it is probably another fifteen minute train ride to Waterloo Station.
I thought the staff were very courteous and allowed us to check into our room when we arrived at 11:00 AM. Even though the hotel is close to the road our room on the ground floor was quiet. The bed was comfortable and we had newer furnishings throughout the room.
The big draw for me was the hotels location. It is an easy walk along the Thames and into Richmond. Really great English pubs like the Sussex Arms and the White Swan are minutes away.

Room Tip: I would think that rooms on the second floor would experience less road noise.

Stayed for rugby England v Italy. Great smooth check in by Stef? Quick, early and room not ready but offered to store bag while we went to match. Plenty of car parking space. Bar was full with Mother's Day lunches and rugby goers, great atmosphere. Easy walk to twickenham about 15 mins. Came back after match, bar full again but bar staff worked v.hard and you didn't have to wait to be served which was amazing! Evening meal choice was good,, service, very quick and efficient, food was good. Room clean and tidy and large. Despite being 208, right by lift we didn't hear any noise or the lifts during the night (thanks to the other guests!). Breakfast next morning was probably only bit we saw that could be improved. Some of it could have been warmer. Staff just seemed slightly harassed /overworked and you did feel guilty asking them to top up bread/orange juice/butter/coffee when they had run out on buffet. Always polite and helpful but just not as slick as reception and bar/restaurant the previous evening. Will definately stay again and recommend. Great location, value for money and bonus with parking. Thanks

Room Tip: We were in 208 by lift and didn't get disturbed so don't panic if that's where you are a...

Thank you for your review of the hotel following your recent stay. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your visit and have taken full note of your comments regarding the service at breakfast. Although you visited us during a very busy time this should not have impaired the level of service at all and we will take steps to ensure that breakfast is a slick as other parts of our business. I have of course thanked Stef for making a good impression on check in ! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Stayed for 3 nights in February 2013. Staff were efficient on check-in, very friendly towards the kids during the check-in process. Room was adequate size, but with a great balcony with a lovely view over the Thames. As the hotel has a thriving bar and restaurant business, I had expected some noise as people came back to their rooms, but it was very quiet, although there were plenty of guests.
We ate in the hotel a number of times over 4 days and the food was great. Of special note was the efficiency and friendliness of the staff at breakfast... just excellent !
Will definately stay there again next time we are back.

Room Tip: 2nd floor, room with balcony... great views at front of hotel over Thames

I have previously given this place a very good review, but I feel that it has allowed standards to slip, while its prices have risen and it now offers poor value. On my last stay, on a cold February night, I was allocated a room with no working heating. My request for a portable heater was only grudgingly accepted. The room was grubby, particularly the bathroom, and the plug didn't fit. At breakfast, the staff would clearly have preferred to be elsewhere, and service was poor, the choices very limited and the cooked breakfast barely edible.

Thank you for taking time to comment upon your recent stay. I was concerned and indeed very sorry to learn that we failed to meet your expectations on this visit. Your comments will be used by the entire team here to bring about an improvement to those areas that you felt were lacking and hopefully upon a return visit you will see us in our "true colours". Once again thank you for letting us know of your experience

We chose this hotel for its proximity to Hampton Court Palace, and to public transportation, both bus and rail. The air conditioning worked as promised. The room was large, comfortable and very clean. We had a street and river view, and could hear no noise from the street below. Nor could we hear any noise from the pub below. The rail station was easily walkable. The bus to Hampton Court took much longer than we expected. A local informed us that in a car, HC was not far at all, but that the bus went to HC in the most roundabout way possible. If ever in the area, we would stay here again.

Stayed two nights at this hotel. Would normally stay at the Coach and Horses (another Youngs Pub establishment) which is a lot nearer to the National Archives where we were working but this was closed due to refurbishment and the Coach and Horses recommended we stay here. The staff were very friendly but I agree with HarryJ81 my room was very cold due to a problem with the heating/air conditioning. I tried turning the heating on and had the same problem with the noise through the night even though the heating was turned off. Apart from that the room was comfortable and is in a nice location.
