“OK Stay for quick shower”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2010

We used the Yotel as an alternative to our airline club since we couldn't access it due to transferring to another terminal. Check-in on automated kiosk was a little frustrating because the computer locked up. Also, we looked for 10 minutes for the light switch for the bathroom and could never locate it- Perhaps a little too much emphasis on a chic modern look over ease of use.

Overall- very clean and easy to find according to directions on their web site. Would use again for a quick shower before transfer.

Stayed one night to catch an early morning flight. Room very clean. Bed very comfy. Staff on the desk very helpful. Much cheaper than staying at the Hilton or Sofitel. Good breakfast available next door at Wetherspoons pub. BUT air conditioning on permanently, and very noisy. Also, constant noise from people arriving and departing and going up and down the corridor. Telephone and some of the features of the supposedly interactive TV did not work, so had to wander out to the front desk in my pyjamas to get my early morning coffee.

Had a long stop over at Heathrow and had pre booked a night in the Yotel. Arrived and had forgot my booking reference and could not remember what card I used to book so the automated terminals useless to me, however I just went in to the reception and within 2 mins the friendly staff had me booked in. Stayed in the standard room, actually enjoyed the experience of such a small cabin, cosy. Well designed and what impressed me most was how comfortable the bed was. Had a great nights sleep and on suite shower a welcome luxury. Sound proofing was good, was not disturbed. Would highly recommend for short stay at Heathrow.

Wow, is all I can say. This hotel constitutes a unique genre unto itself – the normal “star system” doesn’t really apply. I mean, the rooms are truly tiny (smallest I’ve ever been in) but extremely clean, comfortable, and quiet. With room service, no less!

I appreciate good design in general, and someone has put a lot of brain power thinking this design through. The overall establishment appears sort of like a submarine, with its narrow corridors and windowless, compact cabins. The rooms are designed literally to the inch, to attain maximum utility in minimum space. Sacrifices are made – I had to climb up to my bed, so if I were infirm I would have had trouble – but the whole thing is intelligent and very impressive.

The TV had plenty of recent movies available (at 5 euros) and the free music-on-demand was great: lots of genres available, and the classical music selection at any rate was of high quality. Hot water was instant and plentiful.

The biggest two negatives are the fan, which (needed for air circulation) goes all the time, and especially the fact that the toilet is not separated from the main cabin. This might, of course, be truly unpleasant at time.

But overall, this rent-by-the-hour place (I paid 66 pounds for a single room from 7:30 pm to 12:30 pm) delivers the goods if you need to stop over one night at Heathrow, and if you can accept pure functionality over elegance. One caution about Heathrow Airport, by the way, is that it takes forever to travel between terminals; you need to build in extra time for that, as you are at the mercy of connecting trains. Yotel is in Terminal 4, and it took me about 40 minutes to get there from Terminal 5.

Since my first experience with Yotel (which really wasnt great) I've used it a couple of time for day rooms in between flights.

I've found that by using the regular rooms as opposed to the deluxe rooms you get a better standard of noise proofing as they lack the large window that the deluxe room does. Also it helps if you ask for a cabin as far along the corridor as possible to minimize the number of people that walk past your door (by far the worst issue is the sound made by fellow guests who simply cant comprehend that there are people trying to sleep all around them).

Also make sure to ask for earplugs when you check in, they are also a big help.

Ive now probably stayed at the Yotels in Gatwick and Heathrow five or six times and am reasonably pleased with them.

We arrived on an early flight from NY to terminal 4 and had the dilemma of a 4pm check in to our apartment (a VRBO at vauxhaul) and the thought of jumping on the Tube in peak hour with our 2 girls was out of the cards. We decided to use the yotel for the four hour minimum....gave us all the opportunity to shower, change clothes, girls got a little lay down, sourced some breakfast and got a feel of the airport layout for access to the train etc. Staff helped with some suggestions of local events, extremely helpful and curteous and it made that first day which would normally be a drag with bags and overtired children a pleasure setting the trip off in the right mood. Be aware they are small so some juggling is required for space.

Additional tips: order a 10-20 pound loaded oyster card for the adults and teenagers prior to traveling....I received ours in australia within 2 weeks of ordering...made the tube a breeze.

Left luggage: railway stations really easy to use, and traveling on the tube with luggage is a breeze with the luggage gates (avoid peak hours if you can).

Located in Terminal 4, staying here added hours to our sleep time - allowed us to check out minutes before lining up for security. Twin room was small, but plenty adequate, with an efficient place for each thing (fold-out table, flat screen TV). A sliding glass door closes the bathroom - partially frosted glass and curtains help, but you wouldn't want to share this room with someone you weren't comfortable with - there just isn't room for much privacy. Free wi-fi in the rooms, plus a canteen of sorts (w/ a very helpful staff) where you could buy sundries, snacks, and computer time to print out boarding passes, etc. They offer room service, but we didn't use it - there are really good options in the airport for eating and shopping close by.
