I've stayed here scores of times now for work and holiday travel, though to be frank given the sheer blissful convenience of it being connected via a 3 minute covered walkway to T5, it could be a complete fleapit and I'd still use it. Thankfully, it's not a fleapit at all. The rooms are spacious, clean and well-equipped. Wifi isn't free, which is somewhat annoying given the price of the rooms in this day and age. £6 for an hour, or £15 for 24 hours. On the other hand, the beds are epic - amazingly comfortable. I want one...
The staff are friendly and helpful, and extremely proficient at processing you quickly at reception - good when you've arrived travel-stained from the far corners of the world and want to get straight to a shower, a G&T, some food and bed; and good first thing in the morning when you have to be up at a godless hour for a red-eye flight.
Don't be surprised if you get free upgrades to superior rooms upon check-in - this has happened to me on numerous occasions, and is a small, unexpected and very pleasant surprise every time.
A place like this could so easily be a soulless shell processing human traffic. Sofitel have done a good job making it feel a little more human and personal than that. I'll stay nowhere else when passing through London - and it's worth bearing in mind that using the Heathrow Express to Paddington, you're less than 30 minutes from town - and somewhere significantly cleaner and cheaper than many central hotels.
