4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Although the title of my review is 'chaos', I must say that the hotel is very nice and friendly with a lot of super staff. There were six of us in the party and we were part of an organised trip to see a matinee performance of Dirty Dancing at the Piccadilly Theatre (brilliant!). When we arrived at the hotel we were given our rooms and instructions for the evening, which was a bonus, no queuing up at reception. We quickly changed and went for the evening meal which turned out to be quite disappointing for a hotel of this calibre. only three choices of buffet main meal consisting of fish, pasta or stew. As we were all hungry we made the most of the few vegetables on offer and went to the evening disco which was down below ground level. Shock! No bar down there. We all went back upstairs and had a couple of drinks before retiring to bed. At around 4.30am the fire alarm went off and everyone began the evacuation. The only thing was that there was no member of staff to be seen anywhere around the corridors or stairs and consequently everyone bunched up around the stair exits. If this had been a real fire and not a question of someone pressing the wrong button (which we were told later) I fear that there would have been a lot of casualties. There were a lot of elderly people left outside in their nightwear on a very cold and early Sunday morning. Hopefully, the management will be looking at their fire training and evacuation procedures as a matter of urgency.

I can not blame the hotel for the fact that there was a fire alarm at 5.00 h, or that the breakfast was not ready at 6.00, and therefore we had to leave without breakfast, but the unprofessional attitude of the management, reflecting on the behaviour of the personel is astonishing.
We arrived at this hotel because our flight was cancelled, There was a queue of more than 50 people, and only one person willing to handle the demands. The reason they explained was that when more people were handling the demands there would be double bookings.
The quality of the food in the restaurant was poor, even to British standards. The man at the restaurant was not willing to give us a table, so called because the tables were not clean.
The rooms were very small and basic.
We felt to be handled like cattle instead of guests at this hotel, and felt not at all welcome in this hotel.

We stayed here with our coach party which said it was a four star hotel, this is not a four star at all.
Rooms are dated and tired, the corridors are very long took us ages to find our room. We had an evening meal which was awful cheap and nasty a poor chicken stew. We was all woken up by the fire alarm at 5am and we had to leave the building and stand in the cold outside for 20 mins till the fire engine turned up, which was a false alarm, didnt get any apology from the staff at all. We wont be returning in a hurry. The only good thing its right on top of the airport.

Close to Heathrow airport, some rooms overlook the runway. MacDonalds and a convenience store nearby.

I requested in advance a runway view room but initially allocated an interior view room. A quick trip back to reception fixed this and I enjoyed watching the planes coming and going.

Breakfast was included in my rate and was well presented and varied despite no waffle station. Fairly expensive to eat in if breakfast not included in your rate. Drink prices at the bar were also at the high end.

Room had two single beds and an easy chair. Big enough but not exactly spacious in size. Bathroom is tired and in need of refurbishment. The plughole looked bad.

As a stopover hotel it ticks most of the boxes.

Stayed here for 3 nights in Nov 2013 for a convention. We had a smoking room on the first floor. Furniture is very date and needs modernising as does the bathroom. The shower leaked everywhere every morning. Maids woke us up at 8am most mornings which considering if you had just come from a late flight or something could be very annoying.

The rest of the hotel wasn't too bad, it was much more modern and up to date which did not reflect in the rooms.

Breakfast was good, plenty of choice as in full English and continental. Not good service though as we had to ask for coffee every morning rather than being offered it,

Location is ideal for the airport. Local red buses will take you to and from the airport for free which saves paying for the Heathrow Hoppa bus. There's a few pubs and a McDonalds opposite. Also some local takeaways will deliver there too as the room service menu was extortionately priced.

A really negative part of our stay is that my friend who I stayed there with tripped over the carpet on floor 1 as she existed the lift as it was being held down with duct tape and was sticking up. We told reception who really did not care at all this had happened. It's been a week since we stayed there and her foot is still painful. For that reason I would not really recommend this hotel. There are plenty more hotels in the area to try.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the lift otherwise you can end up ages away from the lifts

Its good location for Heathrow led me to choose this hotel and it turned out to be a good choice. The rooms didn't have up to date decor but that is hardly an issue if you are simply sleeping there for an early flight the next morning.

My room felt rather chilly but a call to reception resulted in a near instant kock on the door by a technician followed by a member of housekeeping delivering a heater to my room. I am seldom critical of problems if they are solved immediately. Room service was prompt and delivered a very good meal.

I found all the members of staff friendly and efficient and the bus to the airport that drives up to the hotel entrance was very convenient. Good choice for those early getaways.

The Renaissance Heathrow is the most dated and run-down property in the Marriott hotel group I have ever seen — yet, amazingly, despite many shortcomings, it still manages to be a good hotel that I would recommend and would use again. My so-so rating of only three stars reflects the hardware shortcomings that are offset by staff efficiency and hotel location.
As other reviewers have observed, its carpets — even in high visibility public areas like the main foyer and lift lobbies (see my attached photos) — are held together with an astonishing large quantity of duct tape. The hotel looks in parts like a demonstration of the theory that duct tape is a universal repair kit. Its room fitout is very dated, with cathode ray televisions, and bathrooms lacking hand-held shower heads. The hotel's club lounge is the least attractive I have ever seen: too small for a hotel of this size (649 guest rooms), and lacking facilities and services now commonly seen in club lounges, and with the smallest and least appealing range of snacks.
The key factors saving the Renaissance Heathrow from being a disaster are 1. reliable staff and teamwork, 2. a spacious site, with plenty of car parking, in a convenient location minutes from Heathrow airport terminals and major car hire depots. Every member of staff with whom I interacted throughout my recent two-night stay was unfailingly helpful, efficient and courteous. That includes especially the reception staff who checked me in and out; the very knowledgable and helpful concierge; restaurant staff; and the chefs who skilfully prepared egg orders and kept fresh food coming in an open kitchen in the large English and Continental breakfast buffet layout. Housekeeping staff could be seen all over the hotel at any hour, all the time I was there, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness despite all the obvious wear and tear and ubiquitous duct tape.
Consequently I had a good stay. The room was quiet despite the hotel location overlooking one of the world's busiest airports; the bedding comfortable for a good rest. The breakfast buffet was not world-class, but was one of the best I have seen in the UK. The location was convenient for collecting my hire car; as a base for sightseeing at Hampton Court Palace (half an hour drive away); and as a jump-off point for my onward trip by road around England and Scotland.

Room Tip: Plane spotters and aviation buffs might enjoy a room overlooking the main runways of Heathrow at the...
