“BA's hotel of choice for delayed flights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We missed a connecting flight and BA booked us into this hotel. BA also supplied pj's and toiletries. The queen sized bed and soft pillows was just what the doctor ordered. We were dead tired and we slept like babies. We had time and booked a massage in the Spa for the next day. The steam room and sauna was relaxing. The massage a must for tired muscles. This will be a hotel of choice for us in future stop overs in London, just for of the spa and the soft, big beds. The buffet restaurant, Uno, is poor, unfortunately.

We stopped at the Renaissance before a flight, taking advantage of eight days parking included in the rate, which worked out well for us. On the plus side, the hotel was clean, comfortable and reasonably well appointed. The aircraft noise is tolerable, but it might be a different matter were it not for Heathrow's 23:30 curfew. We didn't avail ourselves of the hotel facilities, other than a Starbucks in the morning, walking the few hundred yards to the very good Three Magpies pub.

Returning to the hotel a week later to pick up the car was particularly painless, the receptionist issuing a ticket for the barrier having quickly checked our account. The car park is open, but I did see someone in a yellow jacket patrolling when I looked out at one point. Still might not be the best place to leave anything valuable though.

So, the negative points: Clawing porters that pounce as you walk through the door is something I'm used to in the US, but was a little taken aback to have it happen here. Perhaps I don't move in the "right" circles? This is fair enough if it is 'all part of the service', but of course you know it isn't and a tip will be expected, which is fine if you're rich and/or lazy. My other moan isn't unique to this hotel, far from it, but I'll voice it anyway: Rip off WiFi. Both here in the UK and the US, the trend is for 'free' WiFi (the establishments getting their payback via marketing data, no doubt), while hotels cling doggedly to the cash cow of charging anything up to £15 for a night's access - and harvesting the marketing data to boot.

The final bit of advice, which I'm sure is often repeated here, if you don't mind a short walk at either end, use the 'London Transport' buses which stop on Bath Road right outside the hotel. They are very frequent, luggage friendly, and take you to the Central Bus Station at Heathrow. Best of all they are free, being within the Heathrow "free flow" zone. Compares well with almost a tenner each way that Hotel Hoppa charge.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. I am pleased your parking arrangements went well. Your comments regarding our Porters are particularly disappointing, as our Front Office Team make every endeavour to ensure our guests receive a genuine and warm welcome. Whilst our Wifi charges are commensurate with other similar hotels in the Heathrow area, your comments have been noted. Please be assured, I take your findings extremely seriously. Your feedback is important and assists us in identifying our strengths and weaknesses, so we can continually strive to improve our standards and service. I appreciate you taking the time and trouble to rate the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel. We hope we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back again as our guest in the future.

We missed our connecting flight out of Heathrow by 10 minutes, and British Airways booked us into this hotel for one night.
The room was very good; really clean and a very comfy queen size double bed. Toiletries were supplied in the bathroom, and the room was heavily double-glazed, so there was no aircraft noise. We both had a sound night’s sleep.
We arrived late in the evening – about 10 pm, and were told that food was still available. It was available, but not great. Most of the food on the self-service buffet was finished or what was left was not warm enough.
Breakfast was much better. There was a good selection of hot and cold dishes available.

We were able to hold the room without any charge until 6 pm, so that was very useful. Check with BA if this happens to you.

There is a spa on the lower ground floor, and having a few hours to fill, I booked a deep tissue massage. It was one of the best that I've ever had!

Hint: if you exit the main door of the hotel and turn left, walk down the footpath for about 200 yards and cross the main road, you will find a little shop at a filling station. It sells bottled water and some of the items that you might need if your luggage has been checked in and you only have hand baggage.

I was sorry to learn that you missed your Flight by only 10 minutes. This must have been very disappointing for you. Our Delayed Passengers are extremely important to us and I am delighted that you enjoyed your Overnight Stay. I trust we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back again in the future, as our most valued guests - in more pleasant circumstances ! Thank you for your comments.

Dated hotel, not up to the standard of other Renaissance hotels. Not close to terminals, shuttle bus to T5 takes 25 min or you can choose a £16 10 min cab ride.
It would be almost as convenient to stay in Central London near Paddington station and take the Heathrow Express if you have an early flight.
Requested room service breakfast that did not show up within the time frame selected. Seems to cater to airline business, delayed passengers and crews.

I deeply regret that you found our hotel to be dated. The Arora Group recently took over Ownership of the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel and are planning extensive enhancements to our product. I sincerely hope you will give us another opportunity to live up to your expectations in the future. We are also working extremely hard to continually improve our standards of service. Your feedback is very important to us and the points you raised have all been noted. Thank you for staying with us.

I was quite impressed by the lobby of the hotel, but the rooms were a little outdated. Nonetheless, it was clean and quiet and close to the airport. It costs about 8 pounds for a return trip on the Hoppa bus to and from the airport. There's also a Starbucks downstairs, and the hotel restaurant. The hotel restaurant had an excellent breakfast buffet.

A few things that I didn't particularly enjoy about this hotel was that there was not much around the area. The staff was polite, but the service at the hotel didn't stand out. Internet was quite expensive here at 15 pounds per day for 24 hour access. The club lounge was also a little run down, and wasn't particularly nice.

It was a decent stay, but nothing particularly special about the hotel.

I stopped here for 5 nights whilst on a training course nearby. Had I been stopping for one night, I'd probably have scored the place higher. In general, it's OK and there's nothing specific that's wrong, it's just that the nearby Marriott and Raddison are better if you can get them for a similar price.

The rooms are OK - clean and tidy, but only 1 vaguely comfortable chair to sit on and I had a stunning view of the 1st floor roof all week. The sound proofing isn't great either, and sound of planes taking off can be quite intrusive until about 11pm. The Wi-Fi is awful - I got it in with the room, but if I'd had to pay separately I'd have demanded a refund - think back to dial up speeds and you'll get the picture.

There is a gym - what equipment there is is well maintained, but it's quite limited and the cardio machines get taken up quite quickly early evening. You can also get a massage, but the treatment rooms are next to the gym and not well sound-proofed, so not the most relaxing ever.

The best thing by far is the restaurant - whilst the menu is a bit limited when stopping for a week, the food is excellent (if not a little pricey at £20 for a main course) and the service was also very good.

Our park and fly deal was a better price than many surrounding property's and also more convenient, the closest route I believe for the Hoppa service buses. The room was fine as was parking, adjacent to the rear entrance. There is a coffee shop, bar and restaurant, but we opted for a pub a few hundred yards away which the hotel to its credit mentions on their web site, the pub had real ale and a very acceptable steak on the menu, the pub also had two different Japanese air crews turn up and drink pints of Guinness.
