This is a very new hostel in an area of former dockland which is being redeveloped. The town centre is 10-15 minutes' walk away, or there are various busses which stop near the other end of Tabley Street. There is currently very little in the way of places selling food (restaurants/cafes or supermarkets), or indeed shops of any kind, in less than about 10 minutes walk; this might change as the area is redeveloped. The hostel is on a very busy urban dual carriageway (Wapping) although it is set back from the road and the road is partly screened out with planting; when you book, you may want to ask for a room on the side of the building away from the road if you think traffic noise may bother you. The rooms are a good size and not too packed with beds. As with some other modern hostels, the dorms are en-suite, which to me suggests an architect who has never actually stayed in a hostel; while en-suite is great in a hotel, in a hostel the aim should be to minimise the noise and other inconvenience which the dorm-dwellers generate for each other, and en-suite doesn't do that. There are also separate bathrooms available in the corridor if somebody else happens to be using your en-suite. The hostel is has good facilities - self-catering kitchen, internet, payphones, lounge with comfy chairs and TV, the buffet breakfasts are good, and the staff are cheerful and helpful. The hostel is more expensive than the other (non-YHA) Liverpool hostels and even faces stiff competition from the Formule 1 Hotel a couple of minutes along Wapping towards the town centre, which currently appears to be offering a whole 3-bed room to yourself/selves for only slightly more than one dorm bed at the hostel. The hostel should however continue to do well because of the YHA brand.
