“Very good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

Myself, husband and two children aged 10,and 6 stayed for 1 night this weekend. We had a day out at knowsley safari park and decided to stay here as an extra treat. We found the hotel good. The room was adequate for us all, the children having a sofa bed in our room, it was a bit cramped but fine for a night or two, and all very clean and comfy. The leisure facilities are very good, decent sized swimming pool, sauna etc.
The food in the restaurant was good, the kids ate free although we thought the children's menu was small.
Above all the hotel staff were excellent, friendly and competent and willing to please.
Very good value for money.

Stayed here for 2 nights....the hotel is old and nothing to shout about really. The furnishing and interior in the rooms are aged and needs some refreshing.

Staff are great and so is the service.

No free wifi, no acknowledgement of platinum priority club members.

Sorry but ill not be back

This hotel is nothing special but it is a perfectly acceptable hotel for staying away whilst on business. The buffets on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night make a nice change from the standard A la Carte menu and they vary the styles across the weeks if you're there for a long time. The only real downside is a poor mobile (Vodafone) signal and the wifi is expensive at £5 for an hour. There are other longer wifi rates available but IMHO they are all expensive for what I believe should be free like electricity and water nowadays.

This HIE overlooks the Haydock Racecourse and has a huge car park so if you are a racegoer, then I can see the attraction - you can park and walk to the course. We weren't going to the races. We stayed two nights on a room only offer. Breakfast vouchers can be purchased from reception for just under £10, or pay just over £13 in the restaurant They only offer full breakfast, so no reduction for continental. Breakfast was the usual fare, not extensive but what was on offer was hot and tasty. Regarding the room - it was quiet and clean. Apart from that I wouldn't recommend. We booked a family room although we travelled as a couple, as the extra space is handy, however only 1 handtowel an 1 small bath towel was placed in the bathroom. There was another set in the wardrobe, but if we had been a family, then the allocation of old and well worn towels was very meagre indeed. The fittings in the room were dated and showing signs of wear and tear, as were the bathroom fittings. The heated towel rail in the bathroom was not working so no heating in there We had an issue with a faulty radiator in the bedroom, which was noisy and was hot enough to fry an egg on it. At 11.15pm we ended up calling out the night staff to turn it off completely as the room was like a sauna and the noise from the radiator was stopping me from sleeping. That left us with no heating at all (January 2013 - snow outside the window). I did ask about a room change but the Receptionist told me to switch on the aircon which would act as a heater. We did this on Saturday morning, but on our return early evening, housekeeping had switched it off again. Luckily for us we did not spend a lot of time in the room so we managed to cope with it. I booked this in response to an e.mail offer from Holiday Inn inviting us to come along and help them celebrate 60 years of business ... we are Priority club members and the hotel was far far from full, so it was a shame they decided to put us in a room which looked like it did on the day they began business 60 years ago

We managed to get a great deal at the Holiday Inn over the Christmas period. £29 for a Standard room per night for 4 nights from Christmas Eve, the normal price being £180 per room per night !!
The room itself was quite spacious with standard facilities. There was sufficient wardrobe space and drawers, along with 2 small armchairs and a small table. We had tea making facilities but no biccies ! The bathroom was a good size but everything was fairly basic. The bed was a bit on the hard side and we didn't have a choice of pillow firmness.
We didn't use the Health Club or sit in the Bar. We did take our drinks back to the room and because we've stayed here once before (on a similar deal) we are Priority Club members so got 10% discount on the cost of drinks.
Breakfast was £13.95 per person. It was ok but nothing special. Have had better breakfasts in Premier Inn hotels.
All in all it was a pleasant hotel to stay at but we wouldn't pay the full room price. Guess it's because it's close to Haydock Racecourse.

Hotel is a great stop over point for the M6 motorway. I was workg in Skelmersdale which was easily reached in 10 minutes. Secure free parking. Clean rooms. Breakfast is good, with a selection of different foods. I did not like having to pay for the wi-fi internet.
