“Surprisingly Poor!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2011

Have stayed in many Premier Inns across the UK and this is the poorest we have stayed in to date. The hotel is adjacent to some sort of factory which operates around the clock with noisy HGVs arriving at all hours. The internal doors on the corridors bang when closing and generally does not make for a good nights rest.

When we arrived we were greeted by an overly familiar and common woman who's almost robotic and seemingly scripted check showed how false her pleasantness was. Would have much preferred a self check in kiosk as offered at many of these hotels.

The room was clean and basic like all Premier Inn rooms but our first nights rest was disturbed by both other guests and the noise from the adjacent factories. We spoke to the night porter who quickly sorted the noise from the other guests. On mentioning the disturbance to the reception the following morning the same false woman from the day before showed little or no interest in the fact we had been up all night and attempted to make us feel we had no right to complain. Very poor customer service and attitude.

The breakfast was overpriced for soggy bacon and watery scrambled eggs and speaking to the waitress about our bad nights sleep it was evident we were not the only guests that had gone without sleep. And from the waitresses comments it seemed that everyones complaints at this hotel fall upon deaf ears when they are made to the woman that was on duty.

Would not recommend this hotel if you enjoy a good nights sleep and good customer service/satisfaction.

We Stopped here for two nights last weekend 29th and 30th October 2010 in room 41..The Hotel was just as you would expect,Very Clean and all the Staff that we met were very courteous,Polite and Very helpful. We had a bit of a laugh with some of the staff, we think a bit of freindly banter is better than being quiet and a misery.
Both of the Evening meals we chose were very tasty and we were served quickly,There were a foursome from Australia close by and they seemed impressed with their meals overhearing their comments.
The breakfasts were the same,Plenty to eat and food arrived quickly
The room was quiet and very comfortable and clean.
The only thing wrong was the Location. It looks over a Factory building of some sort at the rear but the front overlooked the car park and you could see the road but it was OK.
This restaurant really tries hard to cater for all,They have special meal deals throughout the week and seemed to be quite busy.
All in all, this is a Good Premier Inn to stop in.and would certainly go back there again.

Stayed at Meadowgate 4 times in the past year.Found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only fault I find is that the breakfasts could be a bit cheaper. We have breakfast at Morrisons on the way to Barnsley. You can pick the size breakfast you want and it is much cheaper.

Obviously this is one of the older ones, not up to the usual standard. Room was clean but just, well depressing. Even the telly stand was limp. The welcome was friendly enough but the pub next door where you eat was fairly awful. The food was limp, uninteresting and again not up to the standard I have experienced elsewhere when staying with a Prem Inn. I was on the ground floor and all I heard all night was the man above me moving around the room until late at night and from early in the morning. I wouldn't recommend this one but it is not up to the staff as they were all friendly and helpful.

There are actually two Premier Inn's in the Barnsley area, but the one we stayed at was in Maple Road actually on the way in to Tankersley, just off Junction 36 on the M1 going north. We were staying there on 22nd and 23rd August for a wedding, so our party consisted of my wife and I, my two stepsons and their wifes and children. The hotel car park was quite full when we arrived, but there was extra parking at the rear of the hotel for guests, so there was never a danger of not getting parked - but more about the car park later! The receptionists that we saw over the weekend were very friendly and very helpful - in fact, shortly after we arrived, we found that one of my stepsons had booked himself in at the wrong Premier Inn, The receptionist checked this for us on the PC, and offered to swap his booking, so after a quick couple of 'phone calls we had him booked into a family room in our hotel before he ever got off the motorway!
The rooms were very clean, and well appointed, and of a reasonable size. In fact it was better than some four star hotels I've stayed at - not sure if this is typical of Premier Inn but I hope it is because I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Now on to the car park - the reason it was so full every afternoon and evening is because of the restaurant. All Premier Inn's have some sort of attached restaurant facility, but this one had a Taybarn's restaurant. Never tried one before but what a place - £7.50 bought you an all you can eat selection, which ranged across Chinese, grill, carvery roast, pizza bar, etc, so you could go back and stuff yourself silly all night! With a reasonably priced choice of wine, this proved to be probably the most popular restaurant in the area, which is why the car park was so full every night! And breakfast was in the same place, although the cooked breakfast was served to you at the table. However, if you wanted more you just had to ask!
So to conclude, for a cheap weekend break away (about £110 for two nights B&B this was certainly a very pleaseant, friendly, clean hotel, with an excellent dining facility on the side - a great family experience also.
And did I mention that it is about 15 minutes drive from the beautiful Peak District.................?

  • Liked — Clean and bright, spacious with comfortable beds

Stopped in the hotel Tuesday - Friday with 2 work colleagues as we were working close by.

Hotel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere but there is a pub attached for breakfast and evening meals. Walking distance takes you to another pub "The Junction" which does superb cod and chips!

Staff at the hotel are probably the friendliest I've come across.
Breakfast was pretty good and the waitress remembered my order from the previous day. It's the small things that count!

Rooms were typical of Premier Inn. With the added bonus of a small flat screen TV with around 100 freeview channels.

Arrived late in the evening and got a friendly welcome and very quick check in. Easy to find, plenty of free parking and very quiet.

Room ( No 27) was spacious, clean and nicely decorated, the bathroom was also very clean and bright.

All in all a good place to stay when you are travelling.
