“Great value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

After reading some bad reviews about our original choice of Doncaster dome we made a 150 mile round trip to take 4 12 year olds for a day out to Metrodome and they would still be there if I'd let them!!

I paid £18.80 for them to swim for 1.5hrs, 2 hrs later they were still in the water and I struggled to get them out from my supervisory position of the poolside cafe!!

Food was average but they offered a decent 'fast food' selection including a veggie option which is not always the case in places like this. It was a nice touch to eat around the pool rather then an enclosed area.

Bowling after lunch for a bargain price of 2 games for £3 each, not like my local bowling alley who inflate the price during school holidays.

Overall keeping 4 kids entertained for £30 plus lunch for 6 hours is fantastic value for money, especially in the school holidays.

We'll definitely be returning even if it's a 150 mile round trip!!

“Wouldn't go again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

We travelled with two of our daughters (non swimmers) aged 4 and 6 from Leeds and arrived at 11.30 am to what looks from the outside like any other average sports centre. We entered and joined a small queue, we paid £28.30 for the three hour family swim (our group on this day was two adults, two kids but can also enter as one adult and three kids or pay individually).

We entered the family changing rooms but it was too busy and there were no available cubicles so we had to separate to the male/female changing rooms. Dad changing in peace while I struggled in what was a truly tiny cubicle with two girls. The changing rooms weren't spotless (the odd plaster lying around etc) but not too grubby or smelly either. We put our clothes in a locker for which you pay a £1 but get back on reopening.

First impressions on entering the pool area was that it was going to be fun. The kids headed for the pirate ship (Sunken Galleon) with the small slides. They had a go moving the squirting cannons about and then went down the slide, I followed and was quite surprised in how fast they are. They went on this a few times during our visit.

We then went on the larger/higher slides (Splash Ahoy) that are between the main swim pool (Still Waters) and the fun pool (Calypso Cove). The kids liked these as they could sit on your knee but had enough with one go, they didn't like how fast they are or the amount of water you get in your face.

We wandered to watch through the window of the dive pool (Walk the Plank) to watch the divers/jumpers landing in the water, this obviously is for swimmers only.

We didn't go on the other slides/flumes (Terror Torrent/Kraken/Eruption) as they too are not suitable for non swimmers.

The waves were turned on in the splash pool (Calypso cove) a few times while we were in there which the kids liked but as it was really busy it easy to get knocked into people and small kids do get washed about.

We also spent time in the baby pool (Coconut Creek) which has one small slide and the main swim pool (Still Waters) which are both pretty much normal pools. You can go between Still Waters and Calypso Cove using a channel that connects them via Skull Falls but Coconut Creek is a totally separate much smaller baby pool.

The temperatures in the pools were OK not cold but not particularly warm. The changing rooms were quite hot and stuffy.

To be honest first impressions were that it would fun packed but there is not really much for young children that can't swim. They are limited to the pirate ship, the baby pool and the shallow ends of the larger pools (obviously understandable if they can't swim) but that is pretty much it. I think a few more climbing/sliding/squirting attractions for younger kids are needed.

In hindsight I should have opted for the one and half hour swim as I now know that would have been ample time. There really was not much to do for three hours and we found ourselves staying/killing the time simply because we had paid for it.

We did not eat there so cannot comment on the food but those areas did look busy so can't be that bad.

Overall it was not a bad day out but it was very busy, cramped and expensive for what is available especially for our group consisting of younger non swimming kids.

I was also a little disappointed by the fact that on returning home I discovered on their website that I could have had a swim and bowling combi for £29.99 but was not advised any of this on paying £28.30 for just a swim at reception. I even stated we had not visited before (so obviously didn't know what they have available) and although friendly the assistant did not give any advise on what packages/discounts etc were to be had on the facilities other than it was either a hour and half or three hour swim and that there is 15% discount on food downstairs if I show my wristband (we were all given green VIP bands). Had I known I probably would have gone for the bowling/swim combi option and we would have felt we had better value for money and not spent our last hour of three killing time in the pool.

I don't think we will visit again especially not with non swimmers, but maybe we would have done had we felt it was better value for money i.e had we known about/bought the combi bowling/swim deal, but who knows.

“Enjoyed by all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

We had a fab day out here with 2 grandchildren 8yr girl and 17mth old little boy, they both enjoyed the facilities. We paid a little extra to be able to swim for a max of 3hrs it cost £23.70.
There are slides for all age groups a toddler section, wave pool and a diving pool with 3 levels of diving board. I think it is definitely one of the best children's fun pools I have ever been too and very good value for money all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

“Perfect family day out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We came to the water park in May and it was a great family day out. The service in the Hideout restaurant was very good and the food was great. The waterpark has a lot a few different slides to try out and we really enjoyed the wave machine in the pool! It was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would strongly recommend the Metrodome!

If you dont want all the action theres a full sized olympic pool and diving pool with 3 boards!! The changing room facilities are same as other fqcilities with ladies gents and family areas! Theres also a bowling alley upstairs that serves great food and drinks after your swimming session! A favourite place of ours esp with a 8and a 6 yr old!! Love it... Do feel tjough that it becomes a dear doo when attending often!
