I remember Travelodge in the old days. Comfortable stays in spotless rooms with the only variables being out of Travelodge hands. i.e. the weather, traffic, family disputes.
These days you never know quite what you're in for.
Luckily, the Travelodge at Barnsley is unmemorable apart from the generic shabbiness and lack of attention to detail that seems to be no longer worthy of question for this chain.
I'm pleased that it is not only me that feels this way. I thought I may be fighting a losing battle highlighting the issues. Many replies from Travelodge to say that each hotel is undergoing a never ending refurbishment seem to be the standard reply.
Travelodge do refund your stay if you are unhappy. Which is nice for the first few times but I'd rather they dealt with the problems.
Provide me with a clean room and clean bathroom, a comfortable sleep experience, i.e. mattress that doesn't need a guest to tell you it is uncomfortable (to which the reply - It's a reasonably new mattress) and some functioning curtains then you have the right to call yourself a hotel.
Barnsley is a hotel.
