“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Great value, traditional style hotel located on the A6 about 1.5 miles outside of Stockport. Loads of free parking, convenient for bus transport into Stockport (15 mins) or Manchester (about 40 mins-depending on traffic), with a bus stop immediately opposite the hotel and a very frequent service (No 192) running every few minutes.

Receptionists were very welcolming, friendly and efficient.

I stayed in an upgraded refurbished room - which was warm, clean and with reasonable decor, a comfortable bed, free wifi, tea & coffee facilities, work station area, good TV. The bathroom whilst not exactly stylish, served its purpose and was clean - the over bath shower was good and towels were fine.

The hot breakfast is freshly cooked to order and of good quality, there is a small selection of cold items from the buffet area - fruit salad or grapefruit, cereals and yogurts along with a selection of breads.

There is a bar and the restaurant serves dinner.

If you want a night out in Manchester - take the bus as the night service runs till about 4.00am the following morning and if you buy a Nightrider ticket (and as long as you travel back by about 3.00 you can go into Manchester & return for under £5.00) - saves on a taxi fare!

We were fortunate enough to be asked to be witnesses at our best friends wedding last week and travelled down from the the north of Scotland to be with them. We stayed in Alma Lodge for 2 nights. Everything was just perfect! It is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in and also had the most professional, friendly staff I have ever come across - all of them!!! We had a beautiful wedding lunch served in wonderful surroundings. Unfortunately hotels like this are few and far and are a treasure when you find them. Worth every single penny and we probably will never have the opportunity to stay there again but will never forget this time. Keep up the good work everyone, you are a credit to your profession!!

We stayed in a family room, which offered great value. The room was warm, well-equipped and was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities are good including a bar and restaurant. The food was freshly cooked and offered a good choice on the fixed price menu. The hotel is accessible and easy to find, although there is no lift, so disabled guests would be well-advised to book a room on the ground floor.

Room Tip: Disabled guests check in advance for a room on the ground floor with special facilities

Thank you for taking the time to review the Alma Lodge Hotel & restaurant, as a small family run business we try hard to maintain high standard of service throughout all departments. We are pleased you experienced first hand all the Hotel has to offer and at such great value.

Happened upon this hotel hungry and cold. The inside was warm and friendly with an open fire - joy. We were cold and hungry and were greeted warmly by the staff. The service was swift and courteous and the food was delicious - just hit the spot.

The interior was nicely decorated with pale panelled walls.

If I were in the area again I would happily eat or stay.

This hotel was a perfect venue for our wedding, the staff were amazing and the service was second to none!
We asked for a small informal wedding breakfast and the hotel did an amazing job of tending to our requests. The food was great and we were made so comfortable and relaxed.
Our thanks go to the staff for making our special day so unforgettable.

My wife and I stayed here for one night to attend a function in the hotel. The hotel was clean and all the staff we encountered were very helpful and professional. The rooms were clean and good value for money. There was good choice available for the buffet breakfast. The food was well presented and very good. Recommended.

Having experienced a bad hotel nearby and thinking of moving nearer Manchester closer to work I remembered ringing The Alma at some point earlier in 2012 spoke with Sue (Manager) also Carl (Owner). Having rang them back again by chance they remembered me. Sue asked me to pop in and have a look at a selection of rooms available and offered a good deal. I moved in the following week and was not dissapointed the place is clean the staff are always pleasant and on hand to offer advise and assistance when needed. I stayed here for 10 Months and would not hesitate to return if the need arose. The rooms are spacious with clean beds and furnature and modern flat screen tv's with built in DVD. En-suite rooms offering great accomodation at a reasonable price. What more do you want.

Room Tip: Rooms in the extension are quieter.
