“Oh dear”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Booked into this hotel for 24th Nov 2012, reception staff where very freindly. We were pointed in the direction of our room. There was an overpowering smell of airfreshners along the way..we found our room. Well, what can i say? It was like going back in time, decades. Awful dated decor, huge room & huge bathroom with jacuzzi bath (which didn't work) I cannot describe how old & dated this was. The bedding was crisp & white & clean though. After a terrible night sleep with people knocking on doors & the uncomfortable bed we decided to go for breakfast. Breakfast was actually really nice...shame about the staff in the restaurant. I asked 1 of the ladies in there "Please could i have a glass of iced water" to which she tutted & rolled her eyes & walked away without reply. She did return with the water but i felt really un comfortable. Wont be staying again even though the cheap price!

Room Tip: Dont go in room 8

me and my girlfriend stayed here for a 60th birthday party the buffet was great and we enjoyed there home made pie. room was very big, and it was a nice bed, only problem with the room was the bathroom door, you could clearly see the other person in the bathroom because of the many panels in the bath room. the breakfast was ok but nothing special, you could only have sausage, bacon, beans, egg, and tomato. so full English should be FULL English, apart from that though, it was a good stay, the staff were very friendly and always happy to help. stayed in 2011

Room Tip: ask for a room with a proper bathroom door

Very basic room but large and comfortable. Great breakfast and very helpful, friendly staff. Perfect location for getting into Stockport. Good value for money

Room Tip: Rooms at front face busy road, can be noisy. Those at the back look onto garden

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding, and both agreed that the reception was lovely, with a nicely decorated hall and reasonable food.

All staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful, so no complaints there!

The main let down of our stay was the state of our room. Not only was the decor dated but the bed felt like it had seen better days and the whole room had a dubious smell.

The communal areas and entrance hall could all do with some serious modernisation although i accept that this is a huge job in such a large hotel.

Overall we were impressed with the good service of the management, but under no circumstances would we stay here again.

i stayed in this hotel in october last year for one sunday night as i was due in stepping hill hospital for surgery early the next day. the hotel itself is slightly run-down and dated but its very clean. my dad and i had a family room which had two adjoining rooms within the one room. we used the one with the double bed almost like a loung; to watch tv and have a cup of tea and then slept in the other side in the two single beds. there was a wardrobe with enough hangers for what we needed for the one night stay. the en-suite was old and shabby but again spotlessly clean and i had no problems with it. was expecting noise from the outside as its on the main road into manchester. however the window had a noise sheild and meant noise werent a problem. the prices in the bar were fine, not cheap but by no means expensive. due to surgery the morning after i couldnt have breakfast, though my dad said it was delicious and had seconds! the staff were lovely and the lady owner was so kind and friendly. when i was back for more surgery in december, my dad stayed here again and had no complaints throughout the three days. would definitely stay here again for the price, convenience and facilities.

my sister and I stayed here on 20 /21st dec 2012 as convenient location for visiting relatives.
On the plus side - family atmostphere and go out of the way to ensure you are happy. You won't get a better breakfast - it was superb (especially the frothy hot chocolates) -large portions and cooked to perfection.
Downside is its a very tired looking hotel - bathrooms grout mouldy and radiators not working but they gave us an electric heater which was fine. t.v's flat screen but very small - loads of tea coffee etc but no toiletries. comfy beds but not a lot of room.
it's a great place if you want value for money and good food but if your looking for opulance then not the right hotel for you.
I would definately stay here again. The hosts helpful attitude more than makes up for the minuses - I hope they do well

Room Tip: probably don't pick room 19 -radiator doesn't work.
