“oh dear.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Me and my girlfriend frequented L'etage a few days ago, while the service was ok the food was rather bland and unimaginative. Its pretentious name sadly misrepresented the standard of food we received as well as the France itself, it may be acceptable cuisine to a less traveled elderly member of society but sadly it wasn't enough for us as we expect a privately run cafe to surpass the quality of a chain one for example the one at Falshaw with its local ingredients etc.

Wont be going again.

We are sorry you didnt enjoy your recent trip to cafe L'etage.
We appreciate that everyone has different tastes and our cafe will not appeal to everyone.
As you have not specified what you ate I cannot make any comments.
Most customers find that we offer a wide range of food to suit most tastes. we never pretend to be pretentcious or anything other than a small eatery that offers freshly made food at reasonable prices. As you can see our other reviews are excellent and we have many regular customers who are happy to return time and time again.
Once again sorry if you felt dissapointed in any way. we hope we can see you again to try and make ammends.
Kind regards
The management

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

Cafe L'etage really is a hidden gem. From the street all you see is their sign pointing to a narrow staircase. Once I ventured up the stairs I was pleasantly surprised to see a bright, elegant cafe-restaurant so I decided to invite my sister to eat there. The dishes we had were extremely tasty and well presented. I had leek and stilton soup and my sister had a creamy mushroom crepe. Of course we had to have desert too which was delicious. Prices are reasonable for such elegant surroundings and the owner served us graciously. Will go to Cafe L'etage every time I visit Bury.
