“Great carvery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Just wanted to say that we regularly visit for the carvery. It's fantastic value for money. Couldn't make it at home for a fiver each! Staff are lovely. Always a real ale on tap. Great pub.

“Nice refurb, shame about the food.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

The young waiting on staff here are pleasant and after its extensive refurb, the place is very much improved. Unfortunately, this does not extend to the food. The beef has been fatty and tough on the last three occasions I have visited. It was returned by the waitress when she saw that I wasn't happy, but the beef she brought as a replacement was just as bad...couldn't cut it.The vegetables look and taste as if they have been under the lights for hours... Pretty dreadful.Even with the Diamond Club card, it's poor value. I had high hopes for the place when it reopened, but it's slipping back to the dire place with an empty car park that it was before. There are two really good pubs nearby, so they had better buck up or risk closing permanently. As with most places with a "value carvery", it looks more like a crèche sometimes with lots of kids, buggies and high chairs.

“Fine for a drink or burger”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I'm glad the place got it's facelift as a choice of drinking places within walking distance is always a bonus but I'm afraid nothing's changed in the standards of food being sent out.

If you want a quick pint and a burger then you'll be fine. Bar staff and waiting staff are always pleasant.

Carvery is dry and tasteless. Gravy has absolutely no flavour. Still amazed at how popular it is. Each to their own I suppose.

I'm not giving a rash review here - we've visited many times now in order to give them the benefit of doubt but after last night's attempt we won't be wasting our money again.

Ordered a sweet chilli salmon salad. I was served a dry salmon fillet on top of some shredded lettuce and a quartered tomato. No sign of the 'sweet chilli sauce', no sign of the 'mixed leaves'. I mean seriously ? - how bloody hard is it ?! Sorry but a five year old could do better.

Go up to to the Black Bull if you like real food.
