We have just returned from having lunch with friends at the Old Ticket Office, it was a midway point for us all and had heard some good comments about the pub and food and wanted to try it out.
Very nice to look at and modern clean interior, when we arrived, we were the first people in for lunch but had to wait for our friend's, I tried their own Attwoods Pale Ale, Pale Ale is my usual preference but this seemed to taste of chemicals. A group of four business men arrived and ordered drinks and sandwiches while we looked at the menu. Our friends duly appeared and we ordered food, the choice looked good but we all plumped for fish and chips at a resonable £9.80'ish , we took our drinks and sat down. The business men were served after 15 minutes or so, so we knew we were next (no-one else in for food over lunch). What appeared an additional small age, the pleasant young lady came to our table and apologised that the chef had left on Sunday and he hadn't prepared any batter (it was Wednesday), we then all chose again so it was not a problem, having the girl return a second, a third and one of our party was having to make her fourth choice due to lack ingredients. Sweets were no better, the same member of our party having to choose a second choice even after asking 'what could we have'.It was only at this stage that someone in management came to our table, a good hour after we had sat down, she just apologised and we commented that we were expecting it to be reflected in our final bill.
We went to the bar to pay and the pleasant girl said the manageress had 'knocked off' the cost of a main course' , we did not think this reflected the service and situation and asked her to speak to the manageress. When she came over we explained the whole experience and she said she would knock off another main meal and BLAMING the bar maid for not telling us the situation sooner, we suggested that we should of been told when we arrived and maybe a black board of what they could offer or only selling sandwiches, which would not have bothered us, she again BLAMED the bar maid for not telling us. The reason for the Poor review is the speed the manageress blamed a member of her team, who had been the one in the difficult situation of keep on returning to our table with the bad knews. Things can and do go wrong but the way it was handled throughout by the manageress was very poor, lacked any form of man management and customer care. No wonder the chef walked out on Sunday and hadn't been replaced by Wednesday. We told the pleasant bar maid that the puddings were a bit bland and she must of relayed it to the manageress as when we were leaving she told us that the puddings were the same suppliers as everywhere around here.
The manageress should be ashamed of picking up her increased wages as a manager as she wasn't !
