Bedrooms are fine. Bar likewise but expensive. Resturant at night not brilliant. Menu rather lacks invention or any orginality. Hotel in pretty and extensive grounds. Excellent and very populat leisure centre.

We were impressed with this hotel, having known it 30 years ago. Our room was very spacious and well appointed. Large comfortable bed, desk area, free wifi , sofa to sit and relax. Large bathroom. ( I wish they would do away with the in bath showers!) the breakfast was cooked to order, the staff were local and very obliging. It was good to have quality pure cotton sheets too!
Plenty af parking and a spa nearby.

Our Ladies Club held its yearly "Open Meeting" here at the end of September 2013. We had a three-course lunch followed by tea or coffee. There were 60 in the group and the Mercure Hotel did us proud.
The 3 - course meal was of a high standard with the quality of food being first class, plentiful with the hot course served hot. We received excellent service from all the waiting staff who were polite, well turned out and willing to help us wherever and whenever they could.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to hold a function here because the staff are very attentive to your needs making sure you get the very best of service, cuisine.all at a very reasonable cost.

Some parts of hotel were a little tired looking. Spa/leisure centre was tired looking too, a bit like a municipal swimming pool, showers won't bother. Bed comfy, staff very helpful but dining room was poor. Cooked breakfast was good however buffet breakfast on two mornings was shambolic, plenty of room for improvement. In the Sunday morning we took part in a wedding breakfast and staff were run off their feet and had to deal with power failure too.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments on tripadvisor and I am grateful for your constructive feedback. I do believe on the date in question we had a very busy period in a short time interval within the breakfast room and the staff did find themselves overwhelmed temprorarily. We have looked at ways to enusure this does not happen in the future and I hope this does not prevent you from visiting again.

Thank you once again for your review.

very pleased with our room and the bed was so comfortable, the staff in the dining room during evening meal and breakfast were fantastic could not wish for better -in reply to an earlier comment about the breakfast by a guest we experienced the buffet and a breakfast that was served to you and could not fault any of it - the staff even got my husband some scrambled eggs that were not on the buffet and he did not have to wait only a few min, overall experience was fantastic for the price, but I do agree about the bar prices being a bit high.

Stayed here for one night on business.I'm glad my company paid and not me.
All the staff we dealt with were very polite and very helpful in some cases above and beyond.
The food was good.Though at breakfast no grapefruit.Very limited yoghurts.
The hotel itself really needs money spent on it.It's set in extensive grounds which are lovely, attached to a leisure club with large pool etc.Which is fine.
What lets it down is the decoration in the hotel itself.Paper peeling ,carpets that most be donkeys years old.(Yes even though we are in carpet city, well close)Paint peeling.Bathroom dated.
The tv's the 1st generation flat screen and the channels very limited.
My last gripe was I ordered a morning paper.7.30 looked outside my room no paper.8.00 still no paper.8.10 as,we went down for breakfast it had arrived.Good job didn't have a 6.30 start.
