“Supper here - never again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

I attended this Hotel in November and had a terrible experience. Firslty is was so cold other guest and myself were eating with out coats on.
When the food arrived the starters were lovely. The main course was rib eye and was charged with a £5 supplement - it was totally inedible - it stank!!
We were treated badly by the staff, We had guests with us and the entire experience here was a 'never to do again event'!
If you are looking for a nice, friendly country home hotel/restaurant don't go here!!

Came across this Restaurant whilst on holiday for a couple of days in Swindon. Enjoyed a very good meal (excellent value at £16.50 for 3 courses) in a really characterful and interesting building. Haven't stayed at the hotel but can recommend the quality of food in the restaurant.

It was only a one night stand but warm and satisfying ! We were made to feel most welcome and given an outstanding and great value dinner, thank you.My only suggestion would be to add tea/coffee-making facilities.

Room was poor, mould and loud noisy fan in the bathroom - paint peeling in the bedroom and bed was lumpy and dipped in the middle. Over all not at all what you expect from the photos, needs a complete makeover . Couldn't eat the breakfast looked unappetising. Sorry but I wouldn't go back.

Food average, budget price so budget breakfast. Biggest disappointment though was no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom. It was either £2 .50 for a hot drink from reception or 50 pence for one from a naff coffee machine. Stayed in far better in that area for the same price. Also could not open bathroom door from the inside and taps on sink a bit dodgy.

It is hard to find fault with any part of my stay here. The family run hotel was welcoming, friendly, and willing to go "the extra mile" to help with whatever you needed.
The building was full of character with windows looking out onto the beautiful countryside. The rooms had everything you needed for your stay, but if there was something more that you needed, they would try to accommodate it. The food was fabulous with generous portion sizes.
If you are an "urbanite", who loves the hustle and bustle of city life, then this place isn't for you, but if you want an escape to somewhere relaxing, comfortable, with good food and friendly people, where you can explore the countryside and the nearby park, then the schoolhouse is a secret worth discovering!
I will definitely be back, and will recommend it to my many friends.

We chose this hotel based on the positive Trip Advisor reviews but were disappointed with the hotel. Firstly, its more of a B&B than a hotel.
The hotel is situated near the M4 but you can only hear the traffic if the windows are open. The building is lovely but would benefit from refurbishment. Our room was clean but old fashioned with heavy Edwardian furniture. The shower was temperamental so we ended up have baths. The towels were all frayed and the bedlinen not ironed and had also seen better days. There were no tea / coffee facilities in the room although there is a coffee machine in the lobby.
Although the restaurant wasn't busy for dinner, we had to wait ages for our food with no explanation. Furthermore, no bread was offered to keep the hunger pangs away. The wine list is limited to a poor selection of cheap supermarket wines. The continental breakfast buffet was fine.
I'm being generous in rating it average, probably because the owner was very friendly and obviously hard working. We would not stay there again.
