“Friendly and welcoming pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We ended up here by default after a pub in the neighbouring town refused to serve us (not even a drink) because we hadn't booked ahead.

The Angel Inn was crowded (unlike the other pub) so our hearts sank - after driving through the rain and fog we really needed a drink and a meal. The woman behind the bar looked up as we walked in, said hi, and offered to get us a drink straight away, and asked would we like to eat. Yay!

The ale was good, as was the wine, and the food was as promised. In the end, my overseas visitors got a great pub experience. I'll come here again.

Just spent the night here very friendly staff really good atmosphere very good menu and a very warm log burning open fire. Our evening meal was good as was the breakfast. Our room was a very good suprise very large with four poster bed also a settee and plenty of storage. Bathroom was quaint and clean. The location was very good for walking or a trip to salisbury. we would love to return for a longer break.

Wonderful rural pub, with friendly staff, excellent real ale, good fresh menu and cosy atmosphere.
Very good menu from bar snacks to quality bistro food, letting rooms and car park.
Excellent spot for a walk and a pint afterwards lucky to live very near - would drive a long way for such a fab place.

We had an unpleasant experience here in 2011 but thought we would try again as it is such a lovely building.
The menu is good with locally sourced products. We ate well.It would be good to see vegetarian food that does not rely on fish or dairy products. As the rest of the menu is so good I'm sure that the chef could manage better.
There is an excellent wine list, but read it carefully before you order! The beers cannot be faulted.
The service from the waitresses was charming and helpful.
So many good things happening here it is a shame about the landlord,s attitude. He was very off hand and we ended up feeling uncomfortable and cross that a pleasant evening had been spoiled, so I am glad to hear he can be charming. I was considering booking a short stay but I have decided to look elsewhere.

I had been here before but just for a lunch. But I booked this hotel on Saturday for my planned birthday party. I have to say that Doug ,Debbie and Carrie were super before and during the two days.
The dood was excellent, especially the filet of lamb ....the best my guests said they had ever tasted. We stayed up until nearly twelve. All the rooms were reported to be good, comfy and warm. We were in Ptarmigan ,large with sofa and good bathroom. We were in the new stable block where both rooms are highly recommended.
All in all, a wonderful experience with no complaints from any of the twelve guests who stayed overnight.

Room Tip: Both in stable block are excellent

This is a delightful place to stay. We and our family stayed for two nights last weekend and the hospitality was wonderful from the moment we arrived until our departure. The food was caringly prepared and there was always a warm atmosphere in the bar. Doug was charming and relaxed with nothing being too much trouble and the lovely Holly seemed to just be everywhere attending to customers needs.

We stayed at The Angel Inn for two nights recently. Upon arrival they confirmed they only had a reservation for one room and not the two that we had booked but a quick scramble and they confirmed they had a second available for us. The rooms were a little tired and could do with a lick of paint, though on the whole they were fairly clean. One of the staff members booked a cab for us and only on the way to our destination did we find that the cab wasn't available to pick us up. A quick phonecall to the Inn to explain the situation and was promised someone would try and sort out our return journey and call us back. No phonecall received. We sorted the cab out ourselves and we were determined not to rely on the staff at the Angel Inn. The breakfast on both mornings was nice but we didn't eat there at lunch or in the evening. I would stay again if there were no other options would would try somewhere else first.
