“Lovely staff, building and grounds BUT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2008

We stayed here following the funeral of an Aunty. Afternoon tea was provided for the mourners and was delicious. Staff were particularly nice as we only booked tea for 5 but 11 turned up. It was no problem and all the elderly folk just loved it. When they left we booked in and stayed in the Walnut room up in the highest part of the house overlooking the beautiful gardens and pool. The room was extremely hot and in need of re decoration but the bed, linen and t.v are all recent updates and were excellent. However the bathroom was not brilliant. Grubby carpet on the floor, loose tiles and w.c and no shower, just a little handheld device which trickled water.
Bar food and wines were very good however as was breakfast.
This is a stunning house with excellent staff and such a lot of potential that I really think they need to sort out their rooms sooner rather than later.

  • Liked — Staff, location and building itself.
  • Disliked — bathrooms

Hotels such as Beechfield are a rare find. At every turn, from booking to deparrture, our every need was catered for.

Charm, coutesy, and prompt service abound. The core elements for a good weekend away are all there. This is a hotel that has actually put someone who can cook in the kitchen. The gardens are immaculate and a delight. And the walled area containing the pool is a great place to sit and relax.

I particularly liked not having to sign for any meals or drinks, and yet we were presented with an error free account on check-out.

Maybe some of the fabric of the rooms need a little updating but our bedroom, Pear, was large, clean and comfortable.

Beechfield House exudes friendliness and based on our experience won't let you down.

We stated in a family room (5 of us) for two nights. Hotel is set in nicely kept grounds and is slowly undergoing rennovation. It has a nice outdoor pool and has a very nice relaxed feel about the whole place. The manager and staff were friendly and accomodating and we enjoyed our stay.
The room was a large room at the top of the hotel with a large king size double, a single and two extra beds for the youngest kids. It was a good size and clean but appeared to be on the list for rennovation and the decor was just starting to get a bit tatty. The only real dissapointment of our stay was the fact that the bathroom had no proper shower facilities - a bath with a hand held shower attachment only. Not ideal.
Food was good, breakfast particularly and the kids thouroughly enjoyed themselves. Its most certainly worth a try and a good base for Castle Combe race track or Longleat..

  • Liked — The look of the building and its grounds
  • Disliked — No proper shower facilities.

For my husband's birthday I booked a fantastic package which included the hire of a classic car ( vintage-classics.co.uk) and dinner bed and breakfast ( Monday - Friday only).
The hotel were able to check us in early at 11.00 and our bag was carried to our room. We spent the day driving around the Wiltshire Countryside.

Sadly the weather later on in the afternoon wasn't too favourable so we decided against a swim in the hotel's outside pool, depsite it being heated. The hotel and indeed the bar area was very tastefully decorated and little did we know that we were in store for a sumptious three course meal which was delightful.

Breakfast the next morning was delicious. A lovely buffet of cereals, fresh fruit etc followed by a cooked breakfast - the black pudding was to die for. The chef is a real credit to the hotel.

The staff couldn't be more accommodating and we would highly rate the whole experience. James looked after us magnificently - Thank you again.

We look forward to our next visit.

  • Liked — The views, the toiletries, the location, the comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities
  • Disliked — The carpet, the shower not being overly powerful and the damp affecting the walls

As the mother of the bride, I cannot speak highly enough about the wonderful day spent at Beechfield House for our daughter's wedding. The day was arranged and managed magnificently by all the staff, led by Chris and James and our overwhelming impression was that of spending the day within a family atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble and our every requirement was met without any fuss, enabling us to enjoy a stress free day knowing that we were in good hands. The hotel facilities were excellent and the setting perfect for such an occasion. The food was superb, the service efficient, the rooms were clean and well equipped and the hotel was decorated beautifully for the occasion. Lucy, the wedding planner, gave us great advice, was reassuring and ensured the day ran smoothly. We would highly recommend this venue to others, not only for weddings but also for other special occasion or quiet getaways. It would be difficult to find better.

  • Liked — Warm, friendly, relaxed atmosphere
  • Disliked — Nothing

Perfect! Superb! We recently got married at Beechfield and had an absolutely wonderful time. The hotel was the perfect setting for a wedding. All of the staff were superb throughout. They were very attentive and really friendly from the moment we met them. They were like having friends organising and serving us, whilst still keeping up a very high level of professionalism. From Lucy who made organising a wedding very easy for us, James and Chris who kept everything running perfectly smoothly throughout the day, the chef who produced fantastic food praised by all of the guests to Maria and her team of waiters and waitresses who were great! We would strongly recommend Beechfield as a setting for a wedding to everyone.
