I stayed here for two nights in March 2013. At first I was quite shocked that a hotel could only offer a standard double bed, particularly when the room was big enough for a king.No niceties in the bathroom, just a very small shower gel and shampoo, not even a facecloth!. The room was bereft of drawers that were functional apart from a very shallow desk drawer that could be locked(no safe). The non slip bath mat was a suspicious aged colour and on the floor next to the bin, the small fixed shower screen had a fringe of black mould and was so small the floor was inevitably soaked when the shower was used.
Dinner in the restaurant was mediocre and over priced, as were drinks.Breakfast was for those lovers of all things fried, only sliced bread on offer no pastries. There was limited cereal and tinned fruit.Staff were friendly when you could find them!
We left the hotel on our first morning at 9am, to attend my sisters funeral, returning at 2.30 pm to find that our room had not been serviced, therefore had to sit in the public lounge area for a cup of tea,not ideal when I just wanted some peace and quiet! When we eventually got access I had to chase reception for milk to make a drink in the room.We went out in the evening to family returning about 11pm, the bar was shut so 2 whiskies were charged at room service price making £19+ a bit over the top.
