“Relax in Tuscany.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

This is a very quaint Tuscan retreat. Very comfortable and the host are delightful. Each night as we returned to la Volpaia we were greated with appetizers, fresh made bread, fabulous homemade dinners and pleanty of Chianti! Andre was very helpful in planning the next days adventure. This is a great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of Italy's large cities.

“Not a Typical Bread & Breakfast but a Real Tuscany Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2011

Meeting Silvia and Andrea and their family made for a real Tuscany experience. This farm stay not only provided a convenient launch pad to explore the smaller towns in Tuscany but helped us truly appreciate local Italian customs and society.

The farm was hard to find, even the GPS had problems. We should have followed Silvia's directions. Once we made it, we were able to relax and enjoy the cooking and friendship of Silvia and Andrea. This was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the many large Italian cities. The one miss was the inconsistency of the hot water in the shower. Silvia and Andrea's warm personalities made up for it.

“Wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

Some of the negative reviews referred to overgrown, neglected, etc. If you expect a Hilton, don't go here. But, if you are looking for a down-to-earth, authentic, Tuscan experience where the focus is on country hospitality, you cannot go wrong with La Volpaia. We found the hosts to be fabulous people who are very knowledgeable of the area and its history. I would have loved to stay longer and get to know Sylvia and Andrea better. She prepared delicious, healthy meals with some special dietary concerns in mind, and he regaled us with stories and tips for our stay. These are genuine, good people with a lot to offer - if you can't appreciate that, you are blind. We would return in a heartbeat!!

“Loved La Volpaia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2010

My wife and I visited La Volpaia with another couple. We are all experienced travelers in our late sixties, and have traveled together often. We were the only guests at the time, so received the full attention of Silvia and Andrea. Silvia's cooking was wonderful and she was particularly careful of my food allergies. Andrea was an entertaining and informative host. We discussed art, Italian history, politics, his reconstruction of the farmhouse, best places to see in Tuscany, etc. Andrea gave each couple one of his paintings and a piece of his unique wood carvings. La Volpaia is ideally situated for travel around Tuscany and to Florence and Siena. As noted by previous reviewers, La Volpaia shows some wear around the edges, but our room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. We did not let any of its deficiencies detract from our enjoyment of the food, location, countryside, views or our host and hostess. When you consider that the room rate includes breakfast, dinner, wine and liquor, you can't beat the value.

“WARNING - Don't be duped by this couples beautiful web site.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2010

WARNING - Don't be duped by this couples beautiful web site.

The pictures are nothing like reality, other than that it's what it used to look like.
------- It is now in serious need of MAJOR maintenance!
Nothing has been kept up. It is more of an over grown weed farm!
* Upon locating the place, we parked and found the courtyard, with over grown trees and various plants growing among the tall weeds and even a 7 meter high cyprus tree which half the tree had fallen over to the ground, not broken or dead, just left in the walk way at the entrance of the house. Those trees and bushes now shade the the area so much you almost loose the view of the valley. There is still a small peek hole view in one area of the courtyard. Which is also were you dine.
* The inside of the home is much worse.. very dirty, dusty and dingy. Clutter sat everywhere. The windows are filthy, cob webs everywhere. It would also seem that they previously used the fireplace with the flu closed... and a wet burnt smoke smell remains throughout the house.
* Silvia is a good cook and the dinners she prepared were wonderful and were comprised of many local meats and flavors that you can only find in the Tuscany area. The view at sunset time is also, still stunning, You can see it right above the overgrown plants or weeds depending were you are standing. The best view being from inside the pool at the edge.
* As for breakfast, forget it... boxed cereal, packaged yogurt, so so coffee, (nothing like any other Italian coffee on our trip at all.) And some sort of dry tart which Silvia has made and serves the same left over tart until it has been eaten. - yech..
* The couple talk nice enough to you, in a placating manor, but don't let that fool you, Silvia screams venomously at her husband regularly! (When she doesn't know the guests can hear her..) Sucking what little positiveness you had left away...
* The only romance at this place is what you bring with you... and it better be a lot, to be able to overlook what has to be one of the worst B & B's, somehow still in business!
