“Simply stunning property, a memory for life on our perfect day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

I was married in Certaldo Alto in May 2013 and we were so fortunate to celebrate in an intimate and extremely special reception at the stunning La Poggiolaia. Our closest family and friends stayed for one week to celebrate our special day and I can honestly say that it was the best day of my life! From the moment I contacted Paola to make an enquiry to the day that we left, the service was impeccable. I have travelled often and have stayed in a range of accommodations, but never have I been so overwhelmed with such kindess and a genuine care for their guests' experience, as I have at La Poggiolaia. Paola was extremely kind and accommodating throughout the booking process and even assisted in sourcing a chandelier locally for our big day. As you know, wedding days can bring unexpected surprises and when a carton did not arrive from America with much needed decorative items, wonderful Paola again came to our rescue and liaised with the local courier company for us! It arrived on the morning of our wedding which would never have happened had Paola not intervened. This level of service continued with Slyvia, the lovely property manager who was there for our every need. Nothing was a bother, ever. Such wonderful people in every way. The villa itself was truly breathtaking. We were in the Capanna and the views from the 2nd level were to die for, simply stunning. The villa was extremely well appointed and was able to cope with my best friend ex chef cooking up a storm as well as the catering company for our reception. Our wedding was every thing we dreamed of and more due to La Poggiolaia. The abundance of blooms in gorgeous spring time created the perfect backdrop. Our families were truly amazed by this stunning location where we enjoyed pre dinner drinks and canapes by the pool overlooking the tuscan hills while a guitarist strummed his beautiful tunes. The beautiful stone of the villa complimented our reception styling perfectly, outdoors and under the pergola looking out toward San Gimignano. Truly, a life long memory of wonderful food and a stunning location. Enough about the wedding though. We also found the location to be perfect for our needs. Central to Siena, Florence and San Gimignano, we were able to do all the day trips that ticked our boxes in terms of gastronomy and gorgeous tuscan hills towns. A car is required in this area but we found it a delight to be able to get lost in your own way, on your own terms and discover some of life's little treasures - like the corner shop down the road from La Poggiolaia who sold wonderful breads and italian meats. Perfect! In addition to this, my husband's parents also made use of the train system on several occasions when they chose a different activity for the day. They found the system easy to use and enjoyed their days out. I could honestly ramble on for eons about this property, so do yourself a favour and take some time (at least a week!) to soak up the essence of Tuscany in gorgeous La Poggiolaia. Your mind, body and soul will thank you for it. To Paola and Silvia - thank you for making our day so very very special. Your generosity and kindness will always be remembered. We will definitely return some time very soon!

Room Tip: Top floor in Capanna for stunning views.

We got married in Certaldo Alto in Sept 2013 and stayed here for 1 week. An absolutely beautiful place to stay with breathtaking views. The gardens and grounds and the pool area are gorgeous. The villa itself is beautiful and the rooms have so much character with tasteful furnishings. The owner Paola and property manager Sylvia were a pleasure to deal with and very helpful. I would love to return here one day, and highly recommend La Poggiolaia for a true Tuscan experience.

Truly, when our large group arrived for our two-week stay and first saw the villa views, it was hard to believe that what we saw was real. Vineyards, hills, olive trees, lavender, roses, rosemary and so much more, it was a Tuscan feast for one’s senses. The lovely views, terraced landscape, and the property almost defy description. From the youngest to oldest of our group, everyone loved the beauty and comfort of our surroundings. The children, ages five to thirteen, and adults enjoyed every inch of the grounds and pool. In addition, the adults could have as much togetherness or privacy as they wished. Our accommodations were comfortable, nicely appointed and maintained. The villa is centrally located in Chianti for easy travel to the ancient hill towns nearby. Take a train or drive to Florence and Sienna, a convenient trip from the villa. There were wonderful local restaurants. Grocery shopping was only a few miles away. Of course, Silvia, housekeeper, and Paola, owner, were instrumental in making it just right for us. They helped with our reservations and plans. Silvia was an extraordinary help to all of us. Our group of 20 plus, from Pennsylvania, Florida, and Virginia, booked the entire villa for the second and third week of July, our two weeks flew by and every day was filled with new and pleasing experiences. Some of our memories are: morning coffee in our PJs on the patio, drinks and appetizers in the late afternoons on the patio, shared fun experiences, many conversations, everyone’s different travels, pasta, pizza, gelato, wine, wonderful meals, and the children’s laughter. Our stay at Poggiolaia started with a fleeting idea that turned into a warm and heartfelt memory.

We stayed one week in La Poggiolaia and were sorry to leave. The villa is perfectly located, close to Florence and Sienna. Sits on a hill with amazing view of San Gimignano in the distance and extraordinary scenery. All apartments are beautifully decorated and comfortable.
Gracious owner, Paola and Sylvia, the manager always available to help.
We spent unforgettable vacation in the villa and would like to come back soon.
Thank you Paola and Sylvia!

This lovely resort encompasses the Tuscan dream. Our holiday was lovely, with stunning scenery, amazing local restaurants and not far from a local town for purchasing supplies. The proprietor is a lovely lady, very willing to accomodate and the apartments are decorated to an excellent standard.
I would recommend this resort very highly to friends and family.

If you want breathtaking views of rolling Tuscan hills, a lovely house with huge glass doors and windows to enjoy the view, attentive owner and housekeeper, and wonderful local restaurants within a stone's throw, La Poggiolaia is the place for you. This lovely property located in the heart of Chianti is convenient to the beautiful hill towns of Tuscany, Florence, and Siena. It's hard to leave the grounds to see the rest of Tuscany, but do. A wonderful base from which to start.

It is very difficult to put our feelings for La Poggiolaia in words because this place just manages to bring the best out of anyone who will stay in it, and more particularly it triggered in our families such a beautiful synergy that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
We stayed there, during the week of our wedding, with 23 of our friends and family for one week in September. The villa itself, the pool, the lovingly decorated rooms, the hosts (Paola and Sylvia) and the 360 evergreen surroundings are so charming and magical that each and everyone one of us had an extraordinary experience, each one in his own way. You just have to go there in order to experience the emotions, the laughter and the happy tears that we have been through. Chiara and Elena, from WeddingsinTuscany, had helped us find this place. They also helped us with the organization of the details of the wedding and it ended up being even better than anything that we had ever dreamed of. We began the week on Saturday night with a dinner at L'Osteria Del Vicario, which is a gourmet Osteria, near the town hall of Certaldo Alto (where we got married on the Thursday of that week). We then enjoyed a cooking class on the Sunday with Barbara the chef and her sister and her sweet mother. This family of chefs, all while showing us how to make fresh pasta and raviolis from scracth, inspired our guests to reach beyond themselves and find the hidden talents :). It was a great activity to get the families to know each other better, all while enjoying music and dancing on the green lawn in the sun. Later that week, we had the most touching, emotional, and fantabulous time of our lives, getting married in the enchanting medieval town hall of Certaldo Alto, which was a ten minute drive from Lapoggiolaia. We then came back to the villa to enjoy the aperitivo and an unreal sunset that one has never witnessed before. Everyone felt simply at home.. Everyone got comfortable and relaxed and deligheted in a delicious meal prepared by Nello (the caterer) and orchestrated by Ranieri and his band (The musicians). It was unfortunate that we had to use a Gazebo, so I would recommend anyone considering to have their wedding there to do it one week or two earlier to make sure it is not chilly at night. Nonetheless, this did not prevent the dancing and the evening fun that lasted late into the night :) The next day, we had arranged for a Yoga session for everyone to unwind and stretch on the green lawn of the villa and this was, to our surprise, a very popular activity that everyone appreciated as it rejuvenated them after the dancing from the previous night... Also worth mentioning are the daily breakfasts and the brunches (on the wedding day and the aftermath day) that were prepared by Eliza and her assistant, always cheerful with the daily smily buongiorno, so a big thank you to them as well.
Still, please note that all these services, housekeeping, breakfast, brunches, etc..are over and above the price you pay for renting the villa.
All in all, a great thank you to Paola (the owner) and Sylvia (The assistant) who really went out of their way to make sure our stay was a very pleasant journey :)
So simply heavenly is all that we can say

Room Tip: As a couple, we initially decided to stay in Roseto, but the best rooms are the top two rooms in Cap...
