“Secluded paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

We wanted to get away from busy San Juan del Sur and La Veranera was the perfect place. Our first couple of days at this B+B, we were the only couple staying in the house. It was like having our own house with staff!
Luise was away while we were there so Greg was our host. Greg cooked some great meals for us and introduced me to the Caprinica, delicious.
Our room was clean and satisfactory, but there were a few ants (I dislike ants immensely), I guess to be expected in a tropical country. Not a deal breaker, I survived.
Playa El Coco was basically deserted every day. We enjoyed walks during low tide and afternoon swims in the surf.
If you are looking for a quiet private get away, La Veranera is a great place to stay.

We came upon La Veranera from a recommendation and believe it was the best find of all our time in Nicaragua. Originally we planned to stay down the way at another B&B but are so lucky to have found La Veranera. The house was perfect. It was quaint and fit the bill beyond expectations. The rooms were spacious, clean, and simple. The property was gorgeous... the layout of the back of the house was just perfect and overlooked the most beautiful and EMPTY beach. This place was real seclusion. A short walk down the beach to the left will take you to the most magnificent rock and cove area. It was a fun climb over the rocks with all sorts of turns. The cove on the other side was again, totally secluded and just beautiful. Priceless.

Thanks to Luisa for great dinners, great suggestions, and pleasant conversation. It truly was one of the most memorable experiences ever. Cheers!

Stayed at La Veranera as a result of a recommendation and could not have been more pleased. The house sits right on El Coco beach and is absolutely beautiful. Luisa greeted us upon arrival and from the beginning we felt right at home. She is gracious and warm and a joy to talk with. The room was large and clean and had AC. The "backyard' was where we spent all of our time because the property is beautiful. Beautiful bouganvilleas' line the property and provide a beautiful floral backdrop to the stunning Pacific Ocean. The ocean is only a few feet from the property but if you chose, you can take a dip in La Veranera's ocean view pool. The patio furniture is all hand made from natural wood and is a perfect place to watch the sun set onto the Pacific or take a siesta while listening to the waves crash. At low tide, you can walk the beach to the next cove for total seclusion on another small beach (about a ten minute walk). As far as the property is concerned, it does not get more relaxing and better than this on Playa el Coco.

The host Luisa is also awesome. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at La Veranera, and each meal was unique and delicious. Each meal was eaten outside on the large table overlooking the beach and ocean (stunning)...and her Cuba Libres were the best I had in all of Nicaragua! If you are undecided about where to stay, I assure you it does not get much better than La Veranera. Can't wait to go back.

The beach is awesome and the Guesthouse is very lovely and quiet with only 3 guestrooms. We had a great time here and can recommend it to everyone who wants to spend time at a not crowded beach just relaxing and enjoying their time.

We were treated to a tour of the hotel and found everything to be as describled in their ads. The place is clean, quiet and located right on one of the most amazing beaches anywhere.
We also ordered pizza from the kitchen and it was very good. A nice little treat for our kids.
This place is literally 20 paces from the sand, fantastic!

We had the best time at La Veranera! The place is nice and small (only 4 rooms), and just absolutely beautiful! Our host, Luisa, was a dream. She was so nice and she cooked us some fantastic, healthy food. We ended up not leaving the hotel for 2 whole days because we could just eat her delicious food (for reasonable prices, $5 lunch and $10 dinner) and purchase beer/mixed drinks from the bar. Why leave?!?

To address the people who have said that you feel like you are living in someone's house and have to walk past the owners a lot... We were fortunate enough to stay there when the owners were away, so we did not have that problem. We also were lucky enough to stay in the owners room, which was by far the best room in the house! One door faced the ocean and one door face the pool, it was amazing! I can see how it would be a little awkward if the owners were there though, because that room is the definitely the best and also right near the lounge areas and pool. It seems like they would want stay in a room that is further removed from the guests. That being said, if you go when the owners are not there you may just end up with the BEST ROOM EVER!

Even if the owner's are there, I would still highly recommend La Veranera. Everything is clean and beautiful. And Playa El Coco is a gorgeous beach with very few people. This is mostly because the drive there is a little rough (bumpy dirt roads) and a little expensive (at least $25 from San Juan del Sur), but it is so worth it! Skip San Juan altogether and just spend at least 3 nights here instead!

Hi Cassandra,

thanks so much for your review and your kind words about me and my cooking!

Unfortunately i just have to response to what you've wrote about the owners room. Please don't get me wrong but i just don't wanna give other people the impression that it's not worth it to come here when the owners are here.
I agree you Guys stayed in the nicest room but it sounds a little bit like as the other rooms wouldn't be nice also. But they are also very beautiful because the way Jim (owner) designed it all the rooms are cute and spacious. The whole place is just beautiful so it doesn't really matter in which room you stay because most of the time you are at the Pool or on the Beach.

I also have to say that it is not awkward at all when Ina & Jim are here. It is rather the converse. People usually like to spent time with the owner to talk about what brought them here and other things. Actually this is what makes our place so special. La Veranera is our home and we share it with other people to have a good time together. Like a family...you don't feel just like a customer but like a friend.

Lots of people have questions about the house for example and who else could answer this questions better then the owner.
And Ina knows pretty much everything about Nicaragua so it is always interesting to talk to her.

The people who wrote the comment that it is strange to walk by the owners the whole time were not really communicative. Peoples needs are different and they probably wanted to spent their time alone instead of getting in touch with Jim & Ina.

I actually really hope you gonna come back and get the chance to meet them and to give us the chance to convince you that the 3 of us together are a really good team.

Thanks again for your review and all the best for you!
:o)
best regards
Luise
