We spent 3 nights at La Veranera at the end of a two week vacation to Nicaragua. It was the perfect end to our trip. The house has 3-4 rooms and we really enjoyed how small and intimate the place was. I highly recommend having breakfast and dinner at the house to get to know your fellow travelers and Luise. Luise, the manager, is an amazing cook--we loved her pizza and spaghetti bolognese. The house is right on what is easily the nicest beach in Nicaragua--very wide with excellent sand and good waves. It's the perfect place to disconnect from the world and truly relax.

La Veranera is a beautiful guest house right at Playa el Coco, 30 min from San Juan del Sur. The house has a western standard of comfort, rooms are pretty, clean, have hot water and AC. The house also offers a pool from where you have a wonderful view at the beach. The beach is sooo close, you practically step out of the pool to step into the ocean.

Breakfast is served at any time you like on the terrace with ocean view. La Veranera has its own little bar - so softdrinks, rum and some cocktails are always at hand. Luise, who manages the guest house, will also cook yummy dinner or lunch for you for reasonable prices.

The beach itself is uncrowed and the ocean crystal clear with a beautiful view of the mountains of Costa Rica. It is also a great spot for surfing and boogie boarding. The owner Jim also offers fishing and boat tours for reasonable prices...a great way to relax and to get to know the suroundings and nature. Ina, Jims girlfriend, is always helpful and the "source" to seek information about Nicaragua in general.

La Veranera is a guest house, meaning you will be a house guest and not just a customer. The atmosphere is very friendly, relaxing and colloquial. Nevertheless, you may also have your privacy if you do not want to interact with the family or other guests.

I can only recommend a stay at La Veranera for those who want to experience a relaxing but fun time at one of the most beautiful places of this world.

One last tip: Enjoy a sunset-beer with the family and crew. Also stay a little longer, turn of all the lights at the house and start counting shooting stars....

I spent four enjoyable and peaceful days at La Veranera in the middle of December.

The Californian ranch style house has three guest rooms, a pool, a communal dining table ( you can eat with the family or on your own) and a quiet bar (note, it is a family bar, not a noisy party place).

My room was very spacious and clean, though basic.

Luise, Jim and Ina will make you feel at home. And that is good, because you are basically living in their home. If they were not such warm and welcoming people, the concept might not have worked were – thankfully they are.

You can order off a short menu or have whatever the family is eating. I would recommend the latter. Luise, who manages the place and prepare meals, is an excellent cook - just go with whatever is her whim. You will probably end up with something much tastier and healthier than if you were to roll the dice at the several other nearby restaurants.

The beach is the real star here though. It is a squeaky clean, wide, white-sand beach, and you may find that you have it pretty much to yourself.

The swimming is very good, and though I am not a surfer looks like it might be a good place for someone wanting to learn.

They can arrange transportation to and from the guest house. They also can arrange trips to the surrounding areas.

If a loud party scene is not your style, this might be.

Highly recommended.

Coco beach is definitely worth the visit. Amazing beach. No crowds. Beautiful warm water. Do not miss a trip here. Drive is wild. Do not attempt without 4x4. La Veranera is very nice. This is a guest house, not a B&B or a hotel. You are entering the home of a family, living with them. If you don't mind being a house guest and interacting with owners and other guests regularly this is the place for you. Not a great spot if your looking for privacy. Rooms are basic but have AC and hot water. Could use a update for the price. Owners very friendly and helpful. They will cook for you for a very reasonable price, great food! Great spot for solo travellers or surfers. Don't expect the Hilton and you will be very happy.
