“A very solid mid priced hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

The owners of this hotel are German and very solid. They built the hotel and have been there for many years. Their knowledge of Nicaragua is incredible.

The hotel is a short, easy walk to the beach and town. The rooms are simple, clean and have all the comforts you need.

My wife and I have been to San Juan Del Sur many times and would not consider staying anywhere else than the El Pacifico Hotel. It is located right outside of town, close enough to walk to town and back within 10min. In town at night can be a little nosiey at times, especially late at night. Its quiet at the hotel for a good nights rest. There is always someone on the grounds and safe enough to leave your door unlocked if you were to forget to lock up. The German couple that runs it, have been there 20yrs. and have a wealth of knowledge of the area. The food is excellent and they have a pick up service and return service from the airport so that you are not driving in the traffic of Managa.

Room Tip: The west side rooms have early morning sun.

When we stayed here we felt like we were part of the family. It is a nice quiet hotel off the beaten path but close enough to the town "Center" that you can walk easily there on the beach. The morning coffee hour/breakfast could have lasted all day starting the day right with good conversation and information. The owners are originally from Germany but have been in Nicaragua since the early 1990's and are definitely the go to people for info and advice about this country. We will be returning to San Juan and will stay nowhere else but Hotel Pacifico.
The rates are reasonable, the food is good, the drinks are cheap, the rooms are newly renovated and clean, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. What more could you want.

We love the Hotel Pacifico and return year after year. The rooms are comfortable and clean with air conditioning and television. The showers have hot water, which is not so common in Nicaragua. The restaurant/bar serves 3 meals a day and the food is really good. The pool is a good place to hang out and the beach is just one block away. Hotel Pacifico is located in the nicest neighborhood in San Juan del Sur and is quiet and peaceful. The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area and speak Spanish, English and German.

We stayed at the El Pacifico Hotel in San Juan del Sur in late January. Because we were staying for a week, we checked out all of the hotels in town that offered a pool. Only the El Pacifico and the Victoriano measured up – most have only tiny plunge pools and don’t get much sunshine. We chose the El Pacifico because, at $40/night, it was less than half the price of the Victoriano.

The El Pacifico is one of the few hotels located north of the river, one block back from the north end of the beach on the quiet street leading to the statue on the hill. While there are no restaurants or stores nearby, it is a short walk across the pedestrian bridge into town. The hotel consists of three two-story buildings and a large palapa-style building that houses the restaurant and a lounging area with a large book exchange. The rooms are spacious with hot water and air conditioning. Each room has a small deck or patio with a couple of chairs. The pool, while small and with only a few loungers, is nicely laid out and is beautifully maintained. Although a breakfast is included in the room rate, it’s a meagre one of coffee, juice and toast. With the amount of money we saved by staying here, we splurged by ordering from the menu for about $5/day. We walked into town every night to watch the sunset and have dinner. The restaurants all seem to have similar menus, quality of food and prices – we paid about $20 for dinner for two and a couple of drinks each.

Unless you are a surfer, there isn’t a lot to do in San Juan del Sur other than lounging around the pool or beach. It is worth taking a hike up to the statue on the hill – the view is spectacular. We also went zip-lining, which is a lot of fun! We spent one evening driving down to the La Flor Wildlife Refuge to try to see the Olive Ridley turtles that lay their eggs at this time of year. The drive is about an hour over a fairly rough road (like a logging road in North America). If you try it yourself, the best bet is to find the refuge in the afternoon when it is light (it would be almost impossible after dark unless you know where to look), then head to El Coco beach for a long, leisurely dinner before going back to the refuge where you may have to wait to midnight or later. Better yet, just take one of the excursions from town!

If you are looking for peaceful, well-run small hotel in San Juan del Sur, the El Pacifico is for you.
