“A comfortable retreat with fine food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Gato Negro has grown over the several years it has been around. The books for purchase are better quality and more diverse and many, many in number. The food is always prepared fresh with interesting choices for juice and pancakes. It is my granddaughter's favorite Sunday AM adventure. She is two. Service is polite and never rushed. It is clear that in part it is an expat hangout; perhaps because of the availability of wifi..

“Cool place for white people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Good coffee and breakfast, as well as internet to catch up. Lots of books to buy if you want, and the prices are great too. Had the turkey club as well as pancakes

“This places keeps on Rockin'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

Like Led Zeppelin this place keeps on rockin thru the years. Reliable, tasty breakfast and lunch fare. An ecclectic crowd of expats, college kids, surfers, tattoed young maidens and the odd foreigner.

This place is not just a mere breakfast joint - its an institution!

“great breakfast and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Had the skillet special-recommended by the waiter-couldn't have been happier with the recommendation. Would definitely recommend this place as the beat breakfast place so far on my travels

“Best Breakfast in Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

El Gato Negro has the best breakfast in San Juan Del Sur. We ate there two days in a row and it was fantastic. We had iced coffees, smoothies, banana pancakes with blueberries and a breakfast sandwich - all for $17. In the states, that is easily double the price. Also, a very cool atmosphere with many people doing work on their laptops. Go to El Gato Negro!
