My family and I stayed at Highmeadow recently for a Halloween themed weekend. Having spoken to family who had stayed before, we requested sites as far away from the train line as possible. This request was accomodated graciously, but unfortunately there is the banging noise from across the river. I will say though that the banging is better then the train, and futhermore the staff at Highmeadow can't control outside noises anyway. They do however protect their campers INSIDE the grounds. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, then headed into our camper around 10pm. At probably 1130pm, a group of campers arrived and set up a tent, started a fire, and began conversing LOUDLY. They were thrown out of the camp within an hour due to the quiet time violation. I was certainly happy to see the campground taking the comfort and rights of their guests seriously.
This campground also offers a super convienent shuttle service to and from the parks that runs around every 15 minutes. The bathhouses were super clean and heated! The camp store and the reception area were very nice, inviting, and full of friendly, helpful staff. The grounds were kept very clean, and the patrons of this campground obey the 5 mph speed limit. I felt very safe which is important since we camp with a 2 year old!
The Halloween activities were ALOT of fun. Their was a pumpking carving judging, coloring contest, scarecrow contest, candy scramble, and a costume contest. The other campers as well as the Highmeadow staff made these activities a blast. After all the fun, there was also a camp sponsored, 12 stop trick or treat event.
All in all, I would highly recommend Highmeadow Campground, and we are looking forward to coming back again and again!
