Highly educational experience, I learned to make a knife using a knife!
My boyfriend Jim and I went to our co-worker, Dwight's beet farm. It was very nice, but his cousin Mose kind of scared me. The only problem was that it smelled a little bit, and also, we woke up at 4 o'clock because it sounded like somebody was crying. We thought it might of been Dwight, but he said it was his cousin Mose and his nightmares. Well... I don't know, it was certainly interesting.
Located in quaint Honesdale, just outside Scranton, Schrute farms was a respite retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff was extraordinary and attentive. My wife learned to make beet syrup and beet rum from Mose. I especially enjoyed the “Bears and Beets” seminar, clinic, and field training headed by Dwight. He was very knowledgeable and quite passionate about the subject matter. I also took advantage of the one-on-one paintball training by Dwight, apparently he was on the team that was second runner-up at the NPPL regional qualifying tournament and is a US Paintball League certified instructor. It was undoubtedly the best 3 and a half days my wife and I ever had. Just sorry we had to cut our vacation short when an infestation of beet armyworms forced the staff to close the resort so they could spray the entire property with insecticide.
I had heard about this place from my friend pam. She said that it was the most interesting place that she had ever spent the night, so I decided to give it a try. I was greeted by an odd man named Mose. He's a great bell hop. When I entered the house I met a man named Dwight. I knew it was a German place so I spoke fluent German to him. It added more to the experience. The same day Mose showed my husband and I how to make a table it sounds boring but it was very entertaining. The two gentlemen were very welcoming and the way they interract with each other is hysterical. The food was wonderful and it's great to wake up to the smell of beets.
First of all, we were not told that we would be staying on the farm in off season NOR that the rotting overstock of beets would be turned into mulch beginning at 4am every morning right outside our window! I'm sorry to the other people who enjoyed their stay, but we thought the staff was VERY odd. Moses (or "Mose") was nice but not very competent to say the least and Mr. Schrute seemed condescending when we TRIED to ask questions about the farm. AND GET THIS! The ONE bathroom in the place is UNDER THE PORCH!
I may bring some buddies here to play paintball some time (they have tons of paintball equipment) but never ever ever would I bring my girl here again.
No wifi, Plenty of parking (60 acres!), Pets are ENCOURAGED!?
