A friend and I stayed in this agrotourism hot-spot while on a cross-country trip from New York to Seattle. I have to say, I never thought I'd know as much about beets as I do after my stay at Schrute farms. We were given tours of the barn and beet fields, and given the opportunity to survey the grounds on our own while the owners prepared authentic beet wine in the kitchen. The property is lovely and has a rich history, though we did see some empty beer cans strewn around what seemed to be the family cemetery.
The men running Schrute Farms are kind, law-abiding, and accommodating and seem to have an infinite knowledge of beet farming and preparation, among other things. We witnessed a fantastic and enlightening table-making demonstration by one of the owners, while the other impressed us with his extensive knowledge of what to do in the case of a bear attack. They even make their own mattresses!
They're a little behind on their indoor plumbing, and "wireless" doesn't mean exactly what you'd think it means, but if you're looking for the authentic agrotourism experience, this is the place to go!
I recommend the America-themed room, though when we peeked into the unoccupied "Nighttime" room, it also seemed quite cozy.
