It took 15 mins to see our server for the first time.
We overheard the hostess yell "Sl*t" to another girl who was leaving the restaurant.
After 20 mins after placing our order, the server said it should be about 10 more minutes. I think she forgot to ring it in.
The green mushroom soup tasted like nothing at all.
The ginger dressing was too salty.
Once we finally got our food, the only thing hot on the plate was the rice. The veggies and meats were cold. The chicken was very dry and almost inedible. The NY Strip was barely a few chucks of over-cooked meat.
I would think the food quality at the Hibachi tables would be better, since you are watching it prepared- but table service was no good.
We never received a "shrimp appetizer" as promised on the menu.
The portions that are given while at a table are much smaller than the grill side tables.
Overall, everything seemed a little off.
Not enough flavor, too much salt, cold, small, etc- every dish had a problem.
It was another 20 mins after we finished our meals before we saw our server again.
We won't be back here!! There are plenty of other restaurants in this area to waste your time at Yokoso.

“Won't bother again”

We have been eating here once a month or so (a half dozen times in total), mainly for the convenience, since parking is easy, and we do like hibachi-type food. Generally the service is so-so: the greeter is always self-absorbed and dour, and the wait staff is generally slow. The hibachi chefs are OK, though it feels like this is the low level minor leagues as chefs learn how to do this sort of act. Skip the soup and salad: tasteless and a waste of time. The grilled food is variable: some chefs create a nice meal and experience, while others rush through in a robotic fashion.

At the end, though, almost no one here actually seems happy to see customers! Required tips and tip jars for the chefs is merely a sign of the lack of real interest in customer satisfaction.

Tonight was the last straw. Planning a dinner for seven, three of us (including a four-year-old) arrived a few minutes early. Seating at the nearly empty restaurant was "against the rules" until all seven of us arrived. Sitting at the empty bar with the four-year-old was also against the rules. The (as always) dour and self-absorbed greeter seemed happy to have handled this within the rules ("But the restaurant is empty: why do you care where we sit?" resulted only in frustration for me). A call to the manager resulted in a grudging "I'll sit you, but you can't order any food, and you must understand that this is against policy, and you really shouldn't ask, and...". OK, enough. We'll go to someplace where we might actually be welcomed on a nearly-empty Wednesday night. The seven us (the other party arrived just as we were leaving after our unsatisfactory discussion with the manager) went to one of the many, many other restaurants in the area. We'll pass this by in the future and recommend the same.

“A fun evening with the kids”

We did have reservations and were immediately seated upon arriving. A friend in our party is allergic to shrimp, and they totally accommocated her needs by cooking all other food first. I thought the soup was a little blah - just a broth with a few slices of mushrooms and some green onion. The salad had a unique ginger type of dressing on it. I think you will either love it or hate it. Only one in our party hated it. We had a variety of meats at our table - salmon, chicken, beef and shrimp. All were very good - not tough, but very tender. I sure wish I could bring home the recipe for the sauce they used for the seafood/chicken. It is truly a fun experience watching all the action of the chefs at each hibachi table cooking. My boys found that to be entertaining. I would most certainly go back again. There was no rock music playing at all - only the Penquins play-off game on the tv's in the bar area.

I came here with my friends and family for my birthday. The hostess was very welcoming and friendly. As she lead us to our Hibachi tables, i was very surprised and delighted by the decorations and the lighting. We ordered, and the cook came out and cooked for us. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. A lot of food was included in one meal! It wasn't like the ordinary restaurants where you pay a lot of money for a tiny piece of steak! My party and I really enjoyed our meal and will be coming back in the near future.

“There is one exception to the usual excellent Japanese”

On August 16-18, we journeyed to Pittsburgh to assist our daughter, who is a Pitt Law Student, move into a new apartment. We can not let Yokoso Japanese Steak House Restaurant.have a pass Should have seen the red flags on this one when we entered, they were playing rock and roll on their system. The sushi was ok but the meats used in the dinner meals were dry and tough. It was very Americanized, unfortunately. The vegetables were completely overdone. 20 more seconds and Gerber would have been proud to have them bottled . Sushi Kim's(downtown Pittsburgh and Sushi Too (Shadyside) are far superior to this "get them in" and "get them out" restaurant. It was very disappointing. For the food and for the price, by far the worst Japanese restaurant we have ever had the opportunity to try. Lesson learned, if a Japanese restaurant is playing "Born to be Wild", run towards the exit.
