“Couldn't resist, had to go back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

We have been to What If Hershey several times in the past when staying in Hershey. On this visit we didn't stay in Hershey, kind of did a few things in the area in route to Reading. But it was only 45 minutes to Reading. And we both felt it was worth it to do dinner there before arriving in Reading. We have our faves there and as usual we were not disappointed. It was Friday night and it was busy, several reservations for birthdays etc... But we were seated promptly and our server was attentive. We ordered margaritta's and our favorite appetizer. They do a shrimp cocktail with 4 large shrimp and the salsa sauce is loaded with baby shrimp, served with chips. In the past we have never finished it all but took it for later. Not this time. It was as good as we remember. We were not rushed to finish, our server kept an eye and when we were done she said she asked if we were ready for our salads. Dinner was wonderful too, had one of our favorites the veal marsala. It was all very good and we enjoyed our leisurely dinner before getting back on the road. Obviously with it being in Hershey, there are a lot of families that dine here. But it is still a very nice place and we have never been disappointed.

“A Well Hidden Gem in the Howard Johnsons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

We were hesitant to try a restaurant that was located underneath an old Howard Johnson's motel but are we ever glad we did.

We ate a the bar but the restaurant looked very comfortable and cozy as well. When we sat at the bar, the bartender, Erin, immediately put out her had and introduced herself. And her excellent service and friendliness never stopped.

The nicest surprise was the food. We split a salad which was brought out on two plates and was plenty for each of us. For entrees, one of us had a bone in pork chop. A very nice portion which was excellently prepared and the seasoning / sauce was to die for. I had the Clams Linguini which was outstanding. There was a nice portion of linguini and sauce done just right but the best part was that there were at least 10 or so clams in the shell but the sauce was loaded with chopped clams as well. Mmmmmmmmm. And, to top it all off, the price were very reasonable.

I can honestly say that What If of Hershey was a high point of our trip. Definitely try it.

“Surprising location, Surprising quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

This surpassed our expectations. The first time we pulled into the Howard Johnson parking lot, we were a little worried. After going downstairs, however, the lounge area was very modern as well as the restaurant interior. We were in the area for a week and visited twice. Both times, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the crab alfredo. The veal was a bit of a disappointment compared to the other food. My fiancée ordered the scallops and loved them. The cocktail selections were also great. The Manhattans (regular ones, though they do offer a lemon-basil Manhattan that he was too afraid to try) were excellent and the blacklight mimosa was an interesting and enjoyable twist on a classic. Overall, it is worth the trip although the prices ($20+ per entree) may warrant it be for a special occasion.

“Great Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

This restaurant is a hidden gem beneath a Howard Johnson's. Totally unexpected, great service, fantastic, flavorful food made with fresh ingredients. All for half the price of similar entrees in Philly or NY. The crab dip app delicious, the scallops perfectly cooked, the lobster ravioli better than supposed 5 stars I've been too. Definitely try this place if in Hershey.

“Wonderful birthday dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

My wife and I drove from Harrisburg to Hershey and we deliberately drove past a other restaurant in town that makes up its own reviews and went to the "What If" restaurant instead. I have great expectations when dining at a higher end restaurant. They not only met our expectations but exceeded them. They were very busy for a Tuesday evening, what does that tell you. Austin was our server and was extremely knowledgeable and professional. My fillet mignon and crabcake were prepared to perfection. My wife had a fillet as well and was extremely happy. The peanut butter pie was to die for. Note this place is mobbed when in the Hersheypark season.
