The Hershey Lodge is located 7 mins from the attractions near a very large hospital, I believe the Penn State Medical Center. A Friendly's is near by and you can see the sprawling new Hershey's factory on the hill. We drove here for a last minute weekend checking in on Saturday and vacating Monday. The lobby was large, clean and had a huge four way fireplace, similar to a ski lodge setup. Our children had their own "check in " desk where they could get a free Hershey Lodge lanyard and some coloring items. The children s' check in is available only on Friday and Saturday as are most of the child orientated functions (Hershey Product Character greetings, smores which cost extra, craft making, etc) Upon check in the staff was very helpful and gave us each a classic Hershey bar to enjoy. The children liked the added touch. Room keys were issued for the ground level facing the front of the building opposite the indoor and outdoor pools. Went to the room 1106 which had a front door that opened out to the parking lot which I was able to request. When first entering the room there was an "old musty" smell similar to a grandmothers old home. The room was larger than a standard room 2 queen beds a large high back chair, twin sinks opposite of each other in the bathroom area with a separate tub shower combo and toilet behind a door.Even though the room appeared clean and neat, for the amount of money per night ($200 per night) that I had to fork out this was unacceptable. I called front desk and they moved me to a room right above the existing one that had an interior entrance (room 2208). This room did not have the musty smell and we planted ourselves here for the weekend. I asked the Bellhop if the smell was normal and he said since the lodge was older and built on a hill, some of the rooms on the ground floor do have a musty smell to them.
PROS: Safe, location is in a quieter area with some food within walking distance.
Child friendly on weekends with functions for children
Clean , tidy and spacious rooms with a regal touch even for a "motor lodge" four persons (2 adults and 2 children ) can sleep comfortably without feeling cramped in the room.
Indoor and outdoor pool, indoor was heated (we used it) lifeguards and had towels available.
Overall very clean and neatly kept, lobby very nice reminds me of a Vermont Ski lodge setup.
Small coffee shop and nice gift shop with 3 restaurants
Concierge desk large and staffed well.
Heater and AC you can control, small refrigerator and microwave and coffee machine.
Chocolate scented soaps and shampoo.
Older place, some rooms have musty mold smell
Odd configuration of toilet in bathroom, have to close door to access it.
Dated interior rooms other than flat screen and ipod friendly alarm clock.
Interior hallways long and noise resonates loudly and the doors are tough to close and must be slammed to close properly possibly disturbing other guests nearby. Can hear persons in hallway when door closed in room.
Large confusing layout, mainly for convention use, and very busy when there are conventions taking place.
Overall the lodge needs some upgrades, very expensive considering the top of the line Hershey Hotel was about $100 bucks more a night.
Indoor pool is located in an area where you have to walk outside unprotected from elements if you stay in the "C or D" Section of the lodge, the other wings have covered access.
No perks other than free candy bars and free parking at lodge, and a shuttle that operates every 45 mins to the Park and Chocolate World.
Would have been nice to get free parking if you decided to drive to the Chocolate World and Hershey park ($8 bucks to park) if you stayed on property, even Disney gives you free parking when you stay on campus as a perk.
Second floor has no smell.
