My first visit to the Lake Wallenpaupack area and stayed at East Short Lodging as a result of recommendation from a local fishing guide's website. What a great recommendation. The room (Queen Suite) was ENORMOUS. Nicely decorated with lots of furniture, but not cluttered, huge private deck, directly across the street from the lake and a private beach. A few good restaurants in walking distance. Short drive to town and area attractions. The staff was very helpful and accomadating. Gave great recommendations for nice dinner as well as great burger from a dive bar in town. Bought a bottle of wine at a local winery and asked if the desk had a cork screw, they not only gave us one to use for the weekend, but pulled out a couple of wine glasses for us saying, "you don't want to drink it out of plastic cups". I'll definitely be back.
Area stuff -
Triple W stables...fantastic experience. Small guided group where they interview you about your experience and pair you with an appropriate horse and take you through deep woods along deer trails (where we saw deer) and great views from hill tops.
Lighthouse Harbor Boat rentals - Loved going out on the lake on a speed boat, but this company ripped us off. Made reservations for 9-1, got there at 8:45 and was told reservation was 8:30-12:30. Wouldn't concede their mistake and basically robbed us of a half hour of the rental. They knew we had no option because it would be impossible to get another boat from a competitor without a reservation. Also boat didn't have required safety equipment (no air horn and strap on one life vest was broken so you couldn't fasten it) Beware them, use another.
